Hmm not so keen on all this "roof-rack with a load of junk on it" .

Incidently, did you aquire the cut-out woman from a "Jongleurs" Night club, or any other club in that chain/Ownership !? I'm sure they use them for their current decoration .

Its a little too modern to be "hood ride" :p
But still pretty cool
Beetles pull off "hoodride" the best i think :thumb:

Will certainly turn heads if you took it to PV.

?5 says it'll appear somewhere in the total vauxhall report if you get it on a stand.

A good attempt mate, like it (atleast its different ;) )

My suggestions to perfect "the look"........

Get it decked !!!!!!!!!!

Use the most popular hoodride logo......
http://www.thebusstation.co.uk/hoodride.gif

Some hub cap style mirror polished wheels (or black steelies) with white walls & red pinstripe - Proper Rat Road stylee :D :D

Few crosses here & there.

Slightly rusty chrome door mirrors off a classic car would look ace too lol

:thumb:

i likes this......

The Nova Pick Up ended up in the hands of the law because we sold it to some lads who decided to drive it home one night pissed and not pull over for the Police lol

Oh well cost us **** all and we made ?100 selling it as well as inspiring lots more people like yourself to build a Nova Pick Up ;)

The car is already sorted out on the Darknights stand at PV and touchwood should be nice and decked like this one

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/CrAzY_kAyLL/sinttulo1mn2.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v177/CrAzY_kAyLL/sinttulo5hk5.jpg

I also have them wheels lol but am in two minds what to do as I like the ones I have on it already plus your really supose to have tidy alloys on your hoodride/ratty car now days - Oh what to do....

Plus I am already on the hunt for a set of wing mirrors dont worry

Totally agree the Beetles are the daddys of the hoodrides and are what made me decide I wanted to try it to a Nova

So keep your eyes open at PV and I might even take it down the strip as the engine aint shy either.....

..................... not my cup of tea tbh.

Looks better than I expected. Most Novas end up a bit ratty if not looked after anyway without trying. No need for the jacked up bonnet IMO, thats the most fake/odd part about it IMO.

Mike B GTE
27-03-08, 12:05 PM
.............not sure i get it.

its a rusty gsi, and thats cool? not much 'buliding' is there though, as novas do just and fall apart very well all by themselves.

rat look is odd at the best of times when it applies to bugs and vw campers etc, but i dont see why youd want a rat-nova, 90% of people on here will have owner a 'rat nova' as that what most of the projects start out like.

fair play for being different though.

CrAzY_kAyLL
28-03-08, 06:25 PM
Thanks for all the comments good and bad as I knew not everyone would like it

Craig there is a reason the bonnet is raised as I have a GSI engine under the bonnet with a 4 branch and K&N so I want to keep the engine nice and cool plus I wish I had a ?1 for every time someone told me my bonnet was open lol

Mike there has been a lot of building gone into this car belive it or not because the car was stripped right down to a bare shell except for the engine bay and it had a lot of welding done to make sure it got threw an MOT then it was sprayed Matt black before been put back together - If you look close you will notice it's also been de-locked and I replaced the door handles for a new set of grey ones along with keeping the rest of the grey parts on the car around the windows and on the boot - Then I drove it threw winter and let the weather take it's toll on bits of the bodywork and now will be stopping anymore rust on the outside as am happy with the places it has rusted threw on the paint- Plus the car has also been dropped on coilovers along with having a full stainless steel exhust system oh yeah and a strut brace has also been added to the car - Then I sprayed the GSI logos onto the car ( yeah I know they need to be higher up but only noticed after I sprayed them on doh lol ) so over all id say there has been a lot of building gone into this car and there is still more to come in regards of detailing ans the engine ( Before anyone asks no it wont be going XE power ) unlike the rusty Novas people end up buying to turn into minters or just end up getting bored of and just leaving to rot away on there driveway

Also the hole point to the rat look is because how would you feel if a car dropped on it's **** with a lovely set of wheels but coverd in rusty bits with a roof rack on it went flying past you at 120mph ( yeah I lost 10mph when I put the roof rack on :( lol ) I think you would be a bit gutted and shocked wouldn't you ?

The roof rack doesn't stay on 24/7 though I will only be putting it on for car shows and very local car cruises as I end up using to much fuel with it on the roof and the price of fuel going up aint helped ! So ill get some pictures of it with out the roof rack on as well

Walsh dont worry about spam as I enjoy the read plus I aint seen them pictures of that blue nova yet so nice one ;)

again thanks for the comments good and bad please keep them coming as i like hearing what people think

lol it will be a bit more than 100bhp this summer as i've got me cams and boost valve to add onto the engine to round it off with an extra 30bhp - As to be honist am not after a car that does 150mph+ I want to be able to throw this car around the bendy roads I live on while pushing the pricks in suits driving there fancy BMWs , Merc ect - Already given a Lotus Elise a good run for it's money ;) but I might still put a 2ltr 8v in before the year is out just wot be telling the insurance because am already paying 2k a year for the 1.6 engine  I dont recomend ever getting a 6month driving ban if you still want cheap insurance on a bigger engine than a 1.2 lol

Only place I can think you might get a roof rack that will fit your Novas would be Ebay a car boot sales or better still your grandads garage as mine is my Dads which he has owned since the 70s and has been in are garage for years gatherin dust - Now a boot rack is something id love to see

29-03-08, 01:35 PM
130hp . Hmm i think your being a touch optomistic there !

In terms of lotus elise.. i can only just out accelerate the lame 120hp version, but in terms of corners there is no chance.

And don't bother putting a 2.0 8v in unless your going to declare it :)

I never said I was out accelerating him if anything it was him out accelerating me when we came to a straight bit of road but when it came to the corners belive me I was pushing the driver round the corners at 70mph+ and if he hadn't of been infront of me id of been going round them much quicker like I normally do lol Trust me dont under estimate the good old GSI engine with the right suspension set up and the balls to push it to the limit

Sorry not been online for a while but ill explain why I wouldn't declare and engine change

I use to own a VW Baja Bug Beetle which I had an awful crash in and was sent to court over - I was given a 6 month driving ban for driving with out due care and attention ! So when I finally got me licence back and went to insure me Nova it cost me 2k just for 1 year 3rd party ! Which is working out at ?200 a month so unless anyone is going to give me an extra grand to insure it as a XE engine I think I might just put a 2ltr 8v in and not tell them due to the fact they look pretty much the same or just go down the old skool root of tuning up the GSI engine either way I hope to have it much quicker than it already is for PV

Plus am sure there is a lot of people on here who are paying insurance on 1.2 Novas that actually have XE under the bonnet lol

Rich
07-04-08, 01:14 PM
If you dont tell them you will lose your lisence again. I put a xe in my 1.2. declared it all with insurance etc but still on the logbook as a 1.2. Everytime i got pulled over i was asked 'what have you done to it, what engine is it i knows its not a 1.2'

Most coppers dont know what they are talking about, but when they cant keep up with you (lol wasnt me) they will soon figure it out and you will get alot more than a ban

Tbh thats a bit pathetic and contributes to the high insurance prices in the first place.

"If" you get busted... which I hope you do you'll just make the whole situation worse as your insurance costs will be even higher... you will probably find no one will insure you... thus leading you to drive with no insurance, get caught again and its a trip to the slammer.

craig green
07-04-08, 05:22 PM
Or alternatively, have an accident, cause mucho damage or even worse, kill someone, then have the insurance company declare you as uninsured due to the non-declared mods.

You end up jailed or furthermore sued for loss of earnings , loss of life etc etc & you the driver would be totally responsible for the outcome.

Imagine hurting a doctor in a car accident, you hospitalize him for 2 months & are liable for his loss of earnings & family upkeep etc... Not cheap!

Far cheaper to declare the mods or simply stay off the road altogether.

All I said was if I bother to put an XE in it I wouldn't bother declairing it due to the price am ALREADY paying to my insurance on a GSI engine which it already has under the bonnet ! and to be honist I prob wont even bother putting an XE under the bonnet because it's just so comman in a Nova now days and I want to be different rather than copy everyone else

Oh well everyones comments have made me laugh anyway so thanks for the giggle and telling me everything I already knew about not declaring an engine change ;) like I've already said on here before though am sure there is plenty of Nova owners on here with XE engines under there 1.2 Nova bonnets so now go chew there ear off unless your willing to comment on me Nova body styling be it bad or good lol

hey buddy , loving the rat look i have amate who builds vdubs and he has a 55 spilty pick up with a turbo porsche lump in and it is so lush.

as for you nova its a cracking car it makes me wish i hadnt spent all my money keeping up with the jonesess , shiney paint let motor etc etc . i loved my 1600 when it was stock and it will never be the same now its a big heavy slag of a brut .

i think there is no need to grill you on what engine or insurance you have its up to you at the end of the day . and yes there are loads of 1.poo nova with xe lumps in and they havent told there insurance companys .
mine is fully insured as a 300bhp let monster with every thing i have spent on it listed and its a great peace of mind Adrian flux to the rescue.

i was banned for a year 5 yaers ago my last car was a e34 540i and i paid £400 a year fully comp and my nova is about the same £400 a year fully comp .

i think there is a strong following on rat look or hoodride vauxhalls/opels possibly a club ? i would like to see saloons 5drs old cavs , chevette viva would be wicked on phat 8x13s mat black.

i am a true petrol head and like all sorts of cars and trends keep up the good work

now now girls put all ur hand bags down and just remember we're here for the site which is a nova forum...therefore novas off any kind are cool....
if everyone liked the same no ones cars would stand out....

with regards to the not telling insurance about mods... yeah its wrong... but so is ****ing ur bird in the ****! may aswell be a bloke...but with a girl its all good! and i'm willing to bet 75 % of cars on here have mods the insurance don't know about! more to the point 80% of modded cars!
