View Full Version : oil cooler help
right ive removed my cooler from my xe , but how do i go about swapping the thread for the filter , eg how the **** do they come out of the block ,
or can i just block the 2 holes on the sandwhich plate off , would it still work fie like this , or.. when the thermostat opens does it work as normal still or does it just run through cooler
if you get my drift
This question rings a bell lol.
The sandwich plate is held on by the thread for the filter itself. You need an allen key up the middle of it to get it off, then replace the thread with one from a non-cooler 8v or an early 16v.
As I said on the phone, i would imagine the plate diverts the flow of oil when the stat trips, therefore blanking them off will do more harm than good :)
It just unscrews from the block Carl.
lol i tried to get one out of an 8v block other day but it had no flats and all i had were mole grips , no way was it moving lol , so i need a allen key up its spout lol , anyone know the size lol as i need this bit haha
Think it may be a 12mm iirc. Its the same bugger that holds the callipers onto the hub carrier anyway lol
thats a 10mm so ill take that and a 12mm lol (is that just for the xe , or 8v aswell)
lmfao. I dont look at sizes. I just look to see if the fecker'll fit lol
The 8 v one should be the same, but some have a hex on the end to get a spanner onto :)
still buy the bit from vauxhall for a few quid. Will save the akward hassle of getting messy in a scrappy lol
right well i tried to get one of a mk3 astra and that had no hex , so ill stick a allen key down it and see if it does owt lol
still buy the bit from vauxhall for a few quid
might be a good option lol
Tis, its in an awkward place to remove from a scrap car lol
The XE sandwich plate has the 10mm allen key bolt in the middle. I think the small stud that you use instead of the sandwich plate is just threaded in so its gonna be tight. Might even have one at work ill have a look tomorrow
