View Full Version : Have you all modded your front arches?
When I put full lock on my wheels catch the front arches?. Back ones have been ground away (no good I know) but I was thinking I may have to do the same with the front, is this standard practice on low novas? I have cav gsi wheels on so are the right offset

what size tyres are you using
when i had 195/50/15 on my cav gsi wheels they cought for fun over every bump etc etc i didnt do ewt with my arches tho lol
i let them catch till the tyre wore out enough not to catch anymore
but not highly reccomended :thumb:
My fronts are folded flat.
195/65/15 down 40mm and no problems here lol
I think your arches are the wrong shape ;)
Im with Jack! Archs shouldnt catch at all
I have ground my front arches back and left a few mm on arch lip. This keeps them looking the same from the out side edge and gives the stonechip(Or underseal) a nice ledge to sit on.
It's also just enough to catch an earing on and almost rip your ruddy ear off! But that's another story.
Think I'll get the grinder out tomorro then, thanks for the info.

195-55-13 lowered 60mm, on an ET36 wheel no problems at all lol
Mine have been rolled, 195/40 R16's but it is really low.
Something's not right here, I have no lip at all on my front arches now thanks to my grinder but my wheels catch still - so bad that I've just ruined my drivers side arch as the tyre has nearly pulled the wing off!!!!!
What wheels are they?
Tyres are wrong size for a nova, or the wheels aren't made for a vauxhall.
cav gsi wheels but 50 profile tyres
purhaps your shocks are knackered
Well if you have et49, then your car must be so low that the front arch is coming over the wheel.
How far is the car lowered/what suspension?
p.s. when Razorjack says that your arches are the wrong shape, I think he means you should buy a family edition Novalol
Wheels are ET49, suspension is NOT knackerd! gis a min and I'll go take a pic as I have no idea how low it is!

can you see the damage it's done!, not really bothered about the wing tho as they were knackerd anyway!
if your not bothered about the wing just tweek it out and stop moaning

ether fit 45's or raise the suspension a few mm
or if its large blocked, fit the correct poundage springs ;)

try get some 195/45/15 tyres. :thumb:
if it catches when you corner that your either throwing it into corners too hard of you need to raisde your ride height. Mine has 60mm springs and shorter shocks and used to have the totally incorrect et (stuck out a bit close to the arch) - rolled them and had no probs from then on...

Humm How lows that?? Looks very very low... i would raise it up as too low creates **** handling and **** Tyres life, and some serious ****ed arches! lol
Lol
Looking at that pic, i would of thought it was pretty obvious why they were rubbing ;) lol
Only rubbing on drivers siide? The car is the same height on both sides (I've measured to be sure!) Yes it's big block and it has Koni suspension fitted. I'm starting to think that wing is not genuine vauxhall and thats why I have probs. I have seen lots of novas that look alot lower than mine and my wheels are the correct off set, anyway new wing req'd now!

So what springs you using on the Koni's with an xe in there?
As i use to run Koni's with an xe on standard 40mm shock/spring set up, and in my opinion the Koni's were utter toss, there idea of adjustable shocks is poor! within a few weeks of having i opted for coilovers.

I've had -60mm drop with GSi 15"s & 50 profiles no bother. Its clearly too low from the pics.
It's also just enough to catch an earing on and almost rip your ruddy ear off! But that's another story.
Serves you right for looking like a pirate! lol

what did you end up doin?
I ground the lip completely off, this made the arch very flimsy so I could pull it out as far as I wanted. I will now cut a steel strip approx 5mm wide and bond it back to the inside of the arch to give it back it's strength and holding the new shape I put into it.
Ouch, sounds a bit drastic. Hope it works out!
Don't forget a real good coating of underseal/waxoyl etc etc
I'm going to paint the whole front end of the car anyway so all rust proofing will be done. It was a bit drastic tho but I like the look of the low nova so I diddn't really want to have to raise it up.
Fair enough. How low did you go? I'm on -35 which doesn't really look much different. I could only get Eibach springs at that drop though, and I had heard they were the best without going for coilovers.

It's getting painted so take no notice of the colour difference!!! How low do you recon it is?
