Your best to disconnect them and put some nice 6" speakers in the doorcards for a better sound.

Please get rid of those god awful halfords style matts. Get some Velour matt's from vauxhall, only about ?45.

Do you want to take the dash right out or just enough to fit speakers?

If you want to remove the dash its easy once you get the big bits out the way

haynes manual, basically take all the big bits off (steering wheel, cowling,indicator/wiper stalks, lower shelf, stereo, clocks, glovebox, heater panel) then the small bits (switches) unbolt the dash from the bulkhead, and hey presto...

Step 1. Remove Mk1 dash.

Step 2. Throw dash in bin (after burning/chopping/stamping on).

Step 3. Purchase Mk2 dash.

Step 4. Fit new speakers to Mk2 dash.

Step 5. Fit Mk2 dash into car.

Step 6. Feel enlightened.

why do you not just remove the clocks giving you enough room to get your hand in twist the speeker out and fit a new one, you will only get 3.5 to 4 inch speeker in there anyway.

i just put some 6inch ones in my mk1, gotta watch the window winders tho.

right got the dash off ( what a mission ) hardest bits was steering wheel then the heater bits with the bike cable type things on the back am planning on changing the speakers for some half decent 10 cm one's and then spraying the dash black properly obviously and the centre console along with the shelf .... I am also making some door pods at the minuet ... al try and get some pictures for you all to have a lauph at ... Thanks lads for your ideas ...
PS: I was thinking of trying to use a mk2 dash but have changed my mind and prefer the mk1 at the minuet .. lol :thumb:

Is it easy to fit the mk2 dash into a mk1?

Yep, mounts are all in the same place. Couple of switches need some wires shuffling around but Haynes has comprehensive wiring diagrams. Keep meaning to write a guide on doing it.

You will not get a good sound from dash mounted speakers (in any Nova dash). You can get 6" mids in door pods with manual winders or better still, make kickwell builds for the A-pillars. 5" mids with the tweeters in the dash perhaps. I have 4" Alpines in the kickwells.

ah damn, youve allready pulled the dash out nevo, i was gonna back what jordan said, if u pop the main dials out, u can get on the 4 phillips screws that hold the speaker in with a feel around with a screwdriver, id probably pull em out and dash em if i were u, stick a coupla 6x9's in the back shelf, bout a 200% gain in volume and quality.. or ditch the i.c.e totally if your hardcore enuff to sacrifice those jungle beats :D

Right lads and gals a have currently got everything out STILL but should be preying the dash tomoro then hopefully fitting at the weekend. A did have some alpine speakers to put in that my mate lent me but then for the lauph plugged some Toshiba surround sound speakers in and they sounded much clearer and better quality all round so have decided to use these . This shouldnt do any real damage no ??? hope not anyway ... As on another thread I have made some phillips door pods sooooo all a need now is a decent amp atleast 1200watts hopefully for my kenwoods in the parcel shelf ..:thumb:

move fuse box to one side while laying upside down on the floor.

Using a 6 or 8mm socket on two extension bars (can?t remember which, but you?ll know when taking out the passenger side which is piece of poo!).

Speaker will almost fall out then find some JBL 9cm speakers or some 10cm ones fit.

Push speaker up try n hold inplace with some duck tape. Then put srcew in socket and tighten up!

Took me about 30/40min with lots or bad language, plastic cuts around arm and wrists. Prob droped it/ knocked it out of place about 10times but well worth it once done!

I have a five door so door speakers wernt an option as door so short in lenght and pods do tend to get in the way a bit.

Good luck

So in the beautiful british weather , I got as far as the whole thing back in except the indicator switches and the little centre peice as i coudnt seem to get the bike cable like thingys on the switch if you get me ... ( wishing theyd never come off now !!)
