Well, after buying and selling many Nova's and always coming back i've come back one last time.

Started with seeing Dan (coochiSR's) Nova in the For Sale thread, promised it was mint, I went 300 miles to see it, and another 300 to pick it up. This is how I found it:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/100_0037.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00230.jpg

Got it back last night...in the rain :( but then I put it in my nice warm dry garage and went to bed, got up this morning and went for a little drive:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00406.jpg

Went to my bodyshop booked in less than 24 hours after owning it!

So it begins:

Start off, 1 mint Nova, go rust hunting....

Grille out, no rust yet...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00407.jpg

Headlight surrounds, urr no rust...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00408.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00409.jpg

Front panel, nope not yet...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00410.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00411.jpg

The bit I thought would be rusty...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00414.jpg

Battery tray either side, minor bit of surface rust around clamp

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00415.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00416.jpg

Windows out ready for surrounds and rubbers...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00418.jpg

Front panel, absolutlely mint, same boths sides!

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00421.jpg

So thats day 1! Next day is time for engine out, and further prepping.

All in all I've found about 3 bits of rust, stupidly clean for 20 years old and 60k in.

Cheers

Fantastic canvas mate.

Wanna share you plans for this minter?

SRimon
22-03-08, 11:01 PM
Not fully sharing the plans...

But yeah, full respray, coilovers, 16's, GTE kit (staying mk1).

Ordering wheels and coilovers next week, hopefully the car should see a full turnaround within around 1 month.

1.2 is staying for the mean time, until a moderately tuned 1.4/6 16v goes in.

Thanks for the comments :)

Will be further updates on saturday :)

SRimon
29-03-08, 08:04 PM
Well had a suprise today, seems my bodyshop hasn't been too busy and he's cracked right on with my car.

Went today thinking I need to do more work, it all had mostly been done! Engine has been out, sadly haven't taken the servo out, but, he assures me he can paint it well enough just masked up. We shall see...

However pics do the talking...

For the project...

Looks like I now have speedlines. Need to order my coilovers and i'm pretty much done for exterior. Sorted a back box to get rid of the poverty spec pea shooter also. Also got a box of bits from colinesmith with full set of window surrounds and rubbers, a gte centre console, and clear front indicators! Also picked up a Mk1 SR steering wheel for 99p off the bay!

Tomorrow should see a lot more work going on....

Nice one Si.

What coilovers are you getting?

SRimon
01-04-08, 04:22 PM
Urm cheapies for now, will replace them when I put a better engine in, the suspension will be purely for looks at the moment.

Well today I refitted the engine into a nicely sprayed engine bay ;) I've also ground back the inner arches and treated them to a good liberal coating of hammerite.

Offered up the window surrounds, which shall be fitted tomorrow.

Probably not a pic update today, but will get a lot more tomorrow as all the shell bar the bodykit is being painted tomorrow morning!!!

pics!! you promised today

I did but the whole shell wasn't painted, so its just some of a dirty engine in a clean engine bay..

Tomorrow will be worth it i promise ;)

Yeah, I had all but decided what I wanted in my head when I first started looking for a shell, did have the last minute colour change idea though!

Picked up my speedlines tonight, need a quick refurb, but damn good for the ?225 I paid for them lol.

Today I got to grips with putting back some bits around the engine bay.

First went back up the engine bolted into place. Then the servo re fitted etc.

I fully rubbed back the inner arches with a wire brush, then treated them to a liberal coating of black hammerite (I’ll do the actual inner arches colour coded, but as this is not seen black will do!)

Annoy finicky stuff done today and yesterday. Engine is now back and running, loom all in the bay etc. Bonnet and boot on. Doors are now latching shut and handles are fitted so they can open again.

Drivers door is now complete with surrounds and glass, just needing a sparkle clean.

Grille is on!

That’s about it for now, will have to be out by the end of the week as the bodyshop is shutting down!

Yeah i've had to order a rear washer jet (brand new vauxhall part woo) and it'll go on!

GTE rear lip, when I get one it will go on!

Martin - I use Gold Class Wash, Autoglym Super Resin Polish, Gold Class Wax, then Meguiars NXT Wax to finish.

Stunning mate, colour is spot on. I know your not 100% complete yet, but theres a couple little bits that need to be done to 'finish' it. ie the spoiler, some nice brakes (4 pots poss) - little detail things

EDIT: actually looking again, I think im just jelous lol

Well the Nova suspension is finally raised enough to get it to move lol...

I've waxed it once, will need to build it up to get the final finish, buts its looking good I think.

Went for a mini shoot :)

Bits still do to...

- Spoiler to fit
- GSi washer jet to fit
- New fuel cap
- New plates
- New front tyres
- Picking up a mint GTE interior next weekend

But all those bits won't take greatly long.

Some pics for you to puruse.

Spoiler fitting fun! Tiger seal sure is strong stuff...sadly which i'm rather annoyed at until fitting a small bow above the washer jet has surfaced. Its not too bad, and most wouldn't have noticed it without me pointing it out.

Well further update quickly..

Needed to get an exhaust sorted, rather than fork out for an aftermarket one on an engine I will change I thought it'd be cheaper just to fit a new centre section. £40 fitted didn't seem to bad to me!

So bimbled around, took a photo on dad's drive

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00487.jpg

In the exhaust shop :)

Rear now with back box and full centre section on.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h73/syep2001/Nova/DSC00492.jpg

Then driving to get some tyres, lots of water and steam pour out of car...look in engine, pouring out of the water pump. Ah fook water pump has gone.

So will be going up to my dads garage to be removed tomorrow, then get the part monday, hopefully re fit over an evening during the week!

Seem's my car doesnt want to go to PVS! lol
