i live in leeds, and next month im taking the nova xe back to holland. however, i brought the car over on the ferry from rotterdam to hull (was a very easy journey), however to take the car back it works out 120pounds cheaper if i drive down to dover, get the ferry from dover to calais, and drive 3hrs and 40 mins up to holland.

but

i dont know if i can bare nearly 8 hours of driving a 2litre nova. so have any of you guys done a long journey like this in your nova?

what would you lot suggest i do?

I've done similar stints in my 1.2, it would be more pleasant if I had the power to overtake properly on the motorway.

The best I ever did was Bognor to Luton and back in one go (6 hours) in the 1 point poo 5 door with SR seats and full interior. The journey was fine, not too noisy at indicated 70 most of the way on the motorway. I'm 6'4" and didnt suffer any back pains!

I've driven from Lancaster to portsmouth (300 miles) and back in my 1600 T40. And that makes a right racket sitting at 70 as it's just on the powerband of the cam.

Don't be soft, a standard XE will be great... lots of power for overtaking e.t.c !

Alright Andy, long time no see.

Were going over on August 28th till the 4th september, can't wait :)

All I need to do now is either build something suitable or hire something again lol

I'm considering a Granada Cosworth powered Sierra if my Escort isn't done in time, could be interesting in the wet !

Keiths a sorted fella, I'd never met him prior to that trip and he was a good laugh the whole time, even when the engine failed he still kept in good spirit.

There is a video on you tube of us towing on the way back but I cant find it anywhere

I remember that oh so well!! Keith trying to stay awake and not overtake you! The noise wasn't nice when Keith actually had to drive it onto the ferry though!

Who are you going over to the ring with in August then JonBoy??

Hello again Ben !

There were certainly a few moments on that drive back when I thought Keith had fallen asleep LOL slightly concerning to say the least

My options this year are take the green drag nova, which tbh I'd rather I didn't, its dangerous and WAY too fast to be attacking any corners lol

A old mate of mine built a granada cossy power sierra a year or so ago which is something I've always fancied, cheap, rwd, probably more dangerous than a 350hp nova but atleast I'll be hanging some HUGE sideways before I wipe out a few grands worth of barriers lol

Stock xe nova would be the sensible option but tbh I've had offers to drive a few cars from my mates who are coming this year so I won't be stuck for enjoyment if I end up taking something sensible (which is unlikley)

Failing all that my Escort might even be done, but I doubt it

Nice stopping distances there lol Bought my nova XE from wirral and drove it back here 281 miles accoding to RAC, had to drive up there too so 562 in one day is quite a mission.

XE's have fantastic economy when you get them upto 70,80,90mph. In a Nova though, the exhaust drone could get on your wick within minutes. I was tired of the noise in Grants XE Nova after a 30 mile or so jaunt to the meet we had in Exeter.

Personally I'd sail from Hull. Do the least miles on UK roads as possible.

[edit] We (me & buddies) are looking to get over to the ring in the last week of August/early Sept. Looks like I might see you out there Jon?

I'll try & bear it in mind.... Maybe PM you nearer.

Hoping to make it over with an Astra mk4 GSi, American charged G60 Corrado, a 1.9 205 on its last legs (might not make it back) & my Nova, should be finished then. LOL
