Nick

yesssss.. amongst lots of other music.

Plenty of perfectly viable "proper" stuff nowadays though, Meshuggah for example.

im proper into metallica, looks odd tho when you can hear rock music comin from a nova lol

wilson_sri
20-03-08, 08:09 PM
Good to see a few! Not really typical of a nova owner though lol

Yeh got to admit Nick there are a good few bands out there. Trivium and shadows fall are pretty good.

Im going to see Down next month in Glasgow, not seen Phil Anselmo live since a pantera gig back in 2000. Guys a legend!

Rock/metal coming from any car looks strange nowadays, but **** em...

Down, quality, ill have a look to see if there down this way. Recently seen Avenge Sevenfold.

I've forgotten what it's called, but theres a documetary where some guy goes through the "family tree" of Rock/metal music , it's pretty interesting.

LOL @ metallica/Pantera being heavy metal.

What do you consider heavy metal then?

I once saw whitesnake at Derby Assembly rooms (3 years ago)
the highlight of the evening was the curry afterwards, the band were crap..

many years back when grunge was about, me & a mate followed a band in Oxford called Squid, who for about a year were nearly the next big thing. regularly we would cross paths with other local bands. there was a heavy heavy heavy metal band called sevenchurch....the noise could only be replicated by chainsawing a barrel of sh1t.... but they had fans

Saloony

Avenge Sevenfold were quality, really true to life but better than that, seen lacuna coil too, excellent, going to seen Queensryche this june sort of a cross between Rush and Bruce Dickinson. Im really into rock music in a big way, my collection is huge and covers a large range, but i draw the line at the comercialised ****e that Green Day have become... then MCR and other tripe like that.

The whole metal genre now takes many forms, there is no clear cut view to it.. i mean christ go to HMV and Nickelback are in the metal section, but by todays stands anything that has an inkling of a guitar chord in it is classed as rock now.

Well in my opinion, definetly not Pantera or metallica ! Pantera were originally a Glam/Hair metal band lol, they quickly buried that look and started making their Power Groove/Thrash metal they're known for. But they're also a slighltly odd one, their riff structure is often like the classic thrash structure, but it's pretty unique ! Metallica were just plain Thrash (bay area).. then they turned to more standardised Hard Rock . It's hard to categorise something specifically as heavy metal - But i'd say Sepultura is an example of the top of my head.

As you can tell, it's a pet hate of mine ! It's the thing i HATE about people's preconceptions towards Metal music, i often instantly get frowned upon for liking "heavy metal"... when it's really a hugely diverse category.

Of course, all in my opinion !

lol I love the old Hair metal bands from the 70's /80's

Cannae beat a bit of Iron Maiden (the Bruce Dickinson years), Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Ozzy, Guns n Roses etc...

The current stuff is all screaming down a mic until your voicebox explodes...

I love a bit of metal. Slayer, Machine Head, Disturbed, Stone Sour, Korn, the lot. I like a bit of the mellow stuff as well, Incubus, lost prophets (mind you, only their first album), and you can't beat some of the old stuff, Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Alice Cooper, etc.
But then I also love a bit of dance and drum n' base. :)

Anyone gone to any festivals this year?
