fill to the top and see if it comes back down as the fuel burns :|
any chance it's the clocks?

check the two wires at the sender unit. could be the wrong way around

soz mate. But that wont help. The sender is just a potentiometer. The resistance varies according to the amount of fuel in the tank. If you short the two wires, it will read full, if you disconnect the wires it will read empty. Mine is constantly reading full so i'm guesing it aint the clocks otherwise disconnecting the wires would make no difference.

Is it possible to just change the sender or do i need a new tank?
