Fair enough, well compared to the bogged normal linkage that was on mine my AX set up is EXTREMELY good lol
Yeah, for a single wiper its prob nice, but i want both wipers. Gonna have to mod a corsa one i think..

can you not run the normal nova one but on the other side of the normal position?
It might work, but the corsa one tucks up real nice.
I agree, corsa one is very good as long as you dont have the battery in the standard place.
Still need to finish mine lol
Get some work on it dude, will make you want to do more!
Cant see the battrey would be in the way, as the motor tucks up under the scuttle nice.
Hmm i think when i was playing with mine it hit the battery slighty, but cant remember :S

Try std nova one first seeing as you have all the bits!
I have, would just be making a bracket.
Flat and polished my wing up today...

what was the problem with the dodgy idlling benny boy?
No clue Ben, we checked everything we could think of and it was none of them.
Icv,afm, tps, air leeks, tb, none of them made a diff.
Clearance is ok,

Still blowing a bit but that will be sorted. After a bit of messing about found the icv was opening and closing, but was sticking.
Fitted the one from my xe and it sorted it. Was missing in the first vid, but cleared after a few mines of running.
Sweet, glad you fixed it :)

Yeah was great, took it around a few more times to get a lil boost. Was great. So weird to drive tho, as all i've driven in a while in my work van and dads vectra, the nova is hard, loud and anrgy.
Get yours done.
Really pleased for you fella...... Glad its practically there :)

i think im in 4 a shock with the Nova, no PAS big rims/big block no A/C blah blah blah but i cant wait
Yeah driving just down my road(ok yes my roads been laied in stages) is unreal, bumpy and crashy loud and suck heavery streering compeard to my van.

Popped to halfords this morning and bought some plastic paint for some of the plastic trims as the cream doesnt go with the black headliner or leather... Yes thats right leather lol

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7897.jpg
Then have been pissing about getting the bonnet pull to work, got it to work with just the dick pushed in..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/th_MVI_7895.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/?action=view¤t=MVI_7895.flv)
But wouldn't work with the bonnet down. Messed about trying different set ups and crap. Gave up, came back and have finely sorted it. So that's nice nice and have tidied up the wiring and boost pipes and bits under the slam pannel.
We noticed last weekend i have a light oil leak so got under to see where its comming from. There's a nut that's screwed in to the sandwich plate, i think its leaking from around that. But while laying under there i noticed this..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7898.jpg
Looks like its been rubbing on.... Oh :(

Yes that's the banjo bolt from the oil cooler, funking stupid thing! This is why another reason why i've never used one before. Any one else has this prob? Any fix?

Oh thats not good news on the Banjo, nice to see it up and running!
Yeah drives nice, need a longer test drive.

Sorry not the plate the line and the bolt

Result!! :D
Right i've pulled the cooler and sandwich plate off. The cooler had no oil in it, i wonder what temp the thermostate in the sandwich plate opens at...
Had peeps says you need the cooler others say you do... What do i do?
The shaft seems very close to the chassis tho.. Can nova tie bars be fitted on the wrong side?
Think it opens at about 100 degrees but I might be wrong. I've personally fitted them to every let conversion I've done, never an xe though.
Tie bars are same both sides. Wheel moves back a lot when you lower car so shafts obv do too. I have fitted lower front tie bar brackets etc to move the wheel back forward a bit more.
Set up is the same as before on the xe, so nothing should be different really.
Might just seem very close.
If its 100deg, then should witht he rad fan comming on and off that must be up around that so it would have opened, but the cooler didnt have any oil in it..
Coolant and Oil heat up at different rates.
100deg coolant temp will be no where near 100deg oil temp.
Oil will get much hotter when your actually driving it though the higher revs etc
Oh and im pretty sure the sandwich plate only goes on in one position???
Mine would only seem to sit in one place anyway and not rotate
Yeah but you get what i mean, its been warn enough and surely the oil gets hotter faster.. From the look of it the sandwich plate will fit anyway around...

Hope it will look good when finished...

Amen to that we've all been at the spanner throwing stage at some point!lol
I would seriously advise fitting an oil cooler, that turbo will heat the oil up no end without one. But crack on Benn, youre nearly there mate! :D

Benn - I struggle to get my LET to run oil temps over 95 degrees. When i used to really hammer it for say 20 mins (on the road) it would just hit 95 and thats with a calibrated oil temp sensor. I never ran an oil cooler but was planning on doing it this time. Is there no way to by pass the thermostat and have it open all the time? I was going to get a sandwich plate from TX autosport, they have holes for 2x sensors and 2 x oil feeds. Not sure if they have a thermostat on them.

You know my thoughts on the cooler mate. You've got plenty of time to sort something out, maybe a Mocal remote stat, before your next Coombe outing.
Something like this setup -
An take off plate in place of the current sandwich plate and oil filter (they come in 2 types) - http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/index.php?cPath=340_527
The run your lines to a remote filter housing and obviously a stat & cooler
eg.
Remote filter plate:
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/images/RFH1Product.jpg
Oil stats:
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/images/OILSTATS.jpg
Give Rally Design a buzz as they'll know the best way to do it. May be better to run the take off to the remote filter housing then use a sandwich plate there rathr than the external stat.

Yeah have been pissed off and then chilled, as i've said on mig if its really the best then i'll fit a cooler, just check where it bolts on too and get some pipes made up.

Oh right, good to know that, dont need or what the stat open all the time as that wont let the oil heat up at all which would be bad.

As long as it will sit a bit father around it will be fine, it did seem to far around cause the big nut on the plate was pushed hard in to the block.
Tbh not gonna mess able with remove ones and stuff, a std one will and should do. Cheers tho. Mot friday....
Homo just get a mocal stat that bolts where the std vaux one does. This is what i have and you can rotate it to suit! fit on myne is spot on!
Why waist the money? When i can just fit the standard one just moved around a bit..
sparkie1401
16-06-09, 08:46 PM
have you sorted /found where the bolt is rubbing?
Yeah look at the pics, its the banjo bolt for the oil cooler, for a temp fit so i can mot it i've removed the cooler and sarnie plate.
Why waist the money? When i can just fit the standard one just moved around a bit..
sorry fag, sure i read on the last page that it couldnt be turned?
and to keep everything hidden and tidy a mocal cooler located in the inner wing!
Theres nothing to stop it from the look of it.. It just sits flat on the bottom.
And a std cooler sits in the inner wing...

16-06-09, 08:52 PM
sounds like the locating stub has snapped off, which is causing it to be able to be fitted, and tightened up at any rotation, i had one like that, but ditched it.
a new GM one has a locating stub that sticks out, and into the bottom of the oil pump, so it can only be fitted one way
Ah mine has that, but still looked like it would fit anyway...
I didnt like the std cooler, looks crap and the 2 i had leaked, mocal set up looks 100x neater, but just depends if you want to splash the cash!
trackdaynova
16-06-09, 08:59 PM
I too had a stat-less mocal jobbie, which obviously helps things keep cool at all times, as it means the oil is flowing through the cooler, without having to get up to temperature :)
Ok, but shouldnt you want the oil up to temp to work best tho?
I didnt like the std cooler, looks crap and the 2 i had leaked, mocal set up looks 100x neater, but just depends if you want to splash the cash!
They arent cheap tho are they...

Even with a mocal and oil flowing through it from cold its not going to take long for it to heat up. Think how small the cooler is, its only there to take the edge of temps. Plus if you drive steady for the first part of your jouney which everyone should i cant see any probs.
Is that your cheap or mine?
I think the sandwich plate was about £50 and the cooler about £70 mate:thumb:

Thats no tthat bad, thought it would be a long more.. Std stuff will do for the mo tho.
yea i bought the mocal stuff as the price was good and i didnt like the fitment of the std stuff (plus both coolers i had leaked from the unions)
Will get custom lines made up to run nicer and to where i want.

can buy mocal sandwich plates with or without stats, myne has a stat.
We left my house, with a light miss fire. Thinking even tho the plugs are new there not fully right, gonna pop to vx in the morning to get gen plug and some oil.
Cruzing on the motoway, water temp ok (fans works) oil pressure was ok.
Missed the road as the roads changed a bit since the google pic i used as a map was taken, which is when we started to smell antifreze and hot water, then the screen missed up and the pass mat for wet.
Pulled over to fine my header tank main hose had poped off and drain the tank. Bugger.
After pushing it back on and topping it up we followed Craig to his place, where it where it blew the pipe off again and dumped the water out again. Fit it again and it...
Passed!
Then blew it again. So this time i removed the wiper motor as the peiece of sh*t was right in the way and i thought might be pushing the tank out of place, looked ok.
Start on the drive home, (for peeps that know) got to tesco burseldon and it poped again. So when it to get some water and to see if they had a screw driver.
Not only did they have a screw driver.. The have a ratch driver set with 10 sockets and screw driver bits for £3.97... I mean really it was so cheap it was unreal!
Pick up some rain-x as well for £2 then 4lts of water and it was a total of £7 it was so cheap it was stupid. Fixed the car in the car park.
Justed on a sadly buzy motorway but found when booting it to get the boost up it would cut the boost off... Gay!
Dans thinks cause the engine was on evo5 chips the actuator has been wound right out, so the boost is getting cut cause i'm running the std ecu and chips.
So need to wind that in, and sort out the water pipe that keeps poping off.
Buts its motoed and drives ok.
Big big thanks to Craig (saloony)

Benn what are your charge temps like with the cooler behind the bumper?
No clue, the shine pipes hasnt been hot yet so cant be that high, the ic sits right behind the mouth of the bumper tho. So its in direct air flow.

ben is that a seat you have to sit on while doinmg work? you ****in fairy haha
seeya ina few weeks big lad
Sitting there is much easier. Everything a good hight, kneeing down kills the knees.
Its been a while so i tought i better geta few updates in.
Who remembers my door with the nice audi handle fitted?
Well i took it to the body top so i could fix the dent in it and get it ready for paint.. So i started to grind the paint off where the dent was and found...
On the back it dsidnt look to clean...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image089-1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image090-1.jpg
Ground the top off to fine..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image092.jpg
Yes thats a hole thats been filled with fiber glass and filler..
Then looking at it i could see rubbing down marks so i ground off a lil higher..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image091-1.jpg
Yeah thats filler right down to the swage and below.. Wasnt looking good.
Thats 3/4 of the door coverd with filler.. Bin time. Wasnt worth saving, they had filled over the rust.
Thats where i did this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image094-1.jpg
On the inside i could see it's only been spotted in place, normaly to keep the heat down to stop warping.
This hadnt worked.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image093.jpg
Yes thats filler... Its 8mm thick. 8 Funking mm!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image096-1.jpg
So now the handles are gonna be fitted to the two mint doors i picked up for Dec. But sadly wont be done for billing :(
From there i moved on to my grab handle for the boot. Wanted to make a new one and plastic weld it so it wont crack or sink or anything.
So take one handle, measure the hole, then cut bit to fill gap from spare handle.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab3.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab14.jpg
Line it up and weld the corners.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab7.jpg
Weld all round.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab9.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab.jpg
Start smoothing...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Smoothgrab12.jpg
I wanted to use a little filler so i filled over and over the gaps with melted plastic tillit was as smooth as poss.
Rubbed it all down, plastic primed and primerd it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image104.jpg
Looks smooth... :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image105.jpg
Then i jumped on to the bumper... Didnt want the number plate light anymore.. So same thing again. Measure bit you wanna remove, then cut from spare bumper.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7955.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7957.jpg
Get it lined up and weld the corners.(good penatration of weld..)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7963.jpg
Weld it in fully.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7962.jpg
Sand back and fill in any more where its needed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7965.jpg
I think the plate moved a bit, so it wass low on one side, so i had to make up the diff with plastic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7966.jpg
When smooth as poss lightly skim with filler. (doesnt look likely i know but it all gets rubbed out)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7971.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/IMG_7975.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image100.jpg
Then prep up and primer..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/bennh/Car%20updates/Image102.jpg
Looks smooth.

Yet again Benn nice touches and not overkill. :)
With 8mm filler on them doors I'm surprised they even sat flush. lol
Not blaming you, you might not of seen it while it was being worked on.
All the "repair" work was done before it was painted red.
i think i got the door in primer.. ive had that many doors i cant remember before it was painted
Yet again Benn nice touches and not overkill. :)
With 8mm filler on them doors I'm surprised they even sat flush. lol
When the handle was welded it the heat had warped the door very very badly, so the filler was used to strighten it out.
Thank you too.

Ah. Sand it then fltt the letters off is the easy way, the way i did it was a bit harder...

www.yell.com (http://www.yell.com) Is your friend...

Yes and no, polish stuff is a back and finger killer.

I should get the porsche wheels done profesionally but i cant really afford to atm. I see what your saying.
