not easy because the digidash doesnt fit in the mk1 surround properly, whereas it slots straight in the mk2 dashboard

What's that got to do with anything chrisj_88?

The mk1 to mk2 dash swap has been covered a quite few times on here now. It's a straight swap apart from some heater ducts and a few switch plug differences I think.

Straightforward swap, all the mounts are the same. Have a look in the search to pick up some old threads, as Iainel said its been covered lots of times.

nope rather easy, although you'll need Mk2 light switch PLUG!, heater ducks and mechanial wires to make everything work properly. and the digidash fits in easy aswell with a bit of modification. (3 out of 5 Haynes Spanners)

heater ducks
Quack lol

Do it. Terrorists hide in Mk1 dashboards so they must all be removed and ritually burned.

I think he was referring to fitting GSI dials into a mk1 dash.

Headlight swtich and hazard need rewiring, iirc the headlight switch is just like for like wires, but the hazard switch needs a couple swapping over...

Heater cables, use the Mk2 items. Length is the same, but the dashboard ends have small round hooks on the end to fit the mechanism (you'll see what I mean when you look behind the dash).
