A rose-jointed quickshift kit, out of the standard part.
I'm far too tight to pay for one.

Rose joints and washers from a local supplier in Ilkeston, threaded bar and ally tubing from a local steel stockholder in Alfreton

Thanks for the comments.
I used a std swivell plate and modified the holes to get the gear stick travel down to 3 1/2 in, the throw on a std one is horrendous, the rest of the job was pretty easy, took about 5hrs from start to finish

I had a go at making a similar one for my rally nova and failed as i got the leverage all wrong. I spoke to a designer of competition parts who told me they had tried to make one and had a similar problem i.e could either get reverse 1 and 2 or 3rd 4th 5th but not all which is why you cant get nova quick shifts. Would be interested to see it in action. With respect Tom does it get ALL the gears. If so you have done something that the pros apparently couldnt.

so parts ?41..... ?10 per hour labour *5 makes it far far more than buying a pre made one lol.

Dar has also written a guide on how to do it so you can all knock em up ;)

its my personal hobby rate sweetie ;)

its a gauge I use to determine if something is genuinely cheaper than buying the item I'm making due to the "sold item" is too expensive.

eg I made a bias pedal box with about ?40 of cylinders, ?5 of steel and a bias bar kit for ?20, and probably took about 10 hours of fettling etc to make...... instantly making it ?50 more than buying one off the shelf and putting me two days behind schedule lol

Don't call me "sweetie", unless you pay your subs to The Bumshunters Corporation, then you can call me anything you like;) :wisewood:

My hobby rate has nothing to do with it, I don't believe that anyone makes a fully rosejointed quickshift, I'm prepared to be corrected though, darlinlol

So to return to some sort of sanity, when everyone has finished tossing,
Q1: Does anyone APART from Tom make a rose jointed quick shift that works? I suggest not or else Stuart would have said so instead of throwing insults at me when i asked a perfectly straight question. Therefore
Q2: Tom, would you put me on the list of people to make a linkage for please.

When I bought a griffith quick shift a few years ago they were ?75.

Looks like good work. I've made various sorts of gear shifts mainly using existing stuff cut up and modded which seems as good as anything tbh. Rose jointed stuff does wear unless you use larger specc'd up rose joints. One of the biggest improvements I found was to machine up brass bushes for the swivel joint and shorten the pivot arm as with the quickshift design. It doesnt actually need the the cost of the rose joints - the standard ball connector joint are pretty good and don't wear like the rose joints.

I also made a direct to box gear linkage and used a half inch U/J out of a cheap tool kit tool kit which seems fine and is loads cheaper than the dedicated gear linkage U/J's sold in the likes of Tweeks.:D
