Hi,

Is it worth fitting a 2.0 8v (C20NE 115bhp) into a nova, or is it too much hassle for not much gain? The reason i ask is because at the moment i am driving a calibra 2.0 8v, and i am removing the engine to fit a V6 lump into it... So i obviously have everything i need for an 8v conversion.

Has anyone here got a 8v nova, if so, how does it go? And was it worth it?

All comments and suggestions welcome,

Thanks, Matt

The c20ne engine imo is worth a **** mate, sell it and just buy a 1.6gsi engine and less hassle fiting it etc - plus you need shafts mounts hubs or gte outers and cav mk2 inners etc

If you have most of the parts to do the conversion I'd say go ahead with it.

Mu uncle used to have a 115 bhp Cav SRi and it had plenty of power, so it should me more than enough in a Nova:thumb:

Id definatley fit an SEH if you want to fit an 8v. Your insurance probably wouldnt be much different between the two.

I fitted one to Steve's, and it convinced me to fit one when I do my SR. Lovely and grunty, servicing is easier than the XE, and makes a nice noise as well :)

As lee said, the 8v's are definetaly more grunty but for the gain of a 20NE you'd get over an 1.6 8v its not worth the hassle.

As for the insurance the SEH was ?100 more than the best quote I got for an NE, but obviously I opted to insure it properly this time.

Thanks for the comments guys, Ive decided not to use the C20NE. The 1.6's have 100bhp, so for an extra 15bhp it just doesnt seem worth the hassle.

I want to stay with what i believe novas are all about... strong, basic 8v engines, so im gonna try and find an SEH lump and play with cams and carbs.

Thanks once again...

Well to be fair you could still tune the 1.6 8v with carbs, cams etc and still get a pretty good result. If things hadnt gone tits up with my 1600 I was going to go with bike carbs, but oh well, I always wanted to have the SEH conversion and its a sweet engine.

40' will be ok as long as no other mods are planned and you choke them up pretty mush as high as they will go, raising the rev limit etc in future will require 45's for definite though

if you can pull enough air for 140-155bhp on a 1.6 8v through 40's then you can get a 2.0 8V there on them....
