Bought it from a friend of mine, its been sat in dry storage for a year but as per always there is a bit of rot on it. but hey onwards and upwards
I will be using the cage from the old white shell again, and selling the GSi slabs i got with the shell

is the boot painted that way?? looks good and its a nice colour
Was thinking the same thing.
Nice colour as said shame about the rust but it wouldn't be a nova project without rust would it!
Yeah the boot is painted with anthricite, looks good, least i wouldnt have to worry about it rotten under the vinyls.
Going to get my finger out on this one and try and progress at a decent speed.
whats the one on the roll over jig?
peester

whats the crack with the slab centres??
nice project mate.. see the potential.
Burgo, the one on the roll over jig is my mates Ecka, Might still be on here as nova loving ned. Very tidy a reg mk1 shell.
Peester, im not sure about the centres as they were on when i got them, im going to be selling them anyway as i have ceserros that i will be using.
Does anyone have any idea what colour this is?
Well folk not so much of an update, but some new parts arrived, gotmyself brand new set of headlights with indicators, so that will tart the front end up a bit.
Also this arrived http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/plate_kit.jpg so that will be welded on soon enough.
As for the rest of it, these are parts i collected for the last shell that will be used on this one, in no particular order

Nice colour.
Should be cool when all sorted :)
ok update time again, not posted in a while so here we go, i got all the seams back to bare metal ready for welding which should start this week!
I also decided that it needed new front end as the original was rotten from the inside out
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00139.jpg
Also it might be painted by the end of june if all goes well.
Now for some pics

Ok folk another update time, Cars now in having the welding done, not in any major rush so will be done once it done. Also found that one of the rear spring seats was truly rusted, so its been removed and will be repaired
Also sold my gsi engine and now have a 1600 16v c16xe to go in once its been stripped and new gaskets etc.
Alos got some Bilt-hamber rust remover so iwill post pics once i see how it goes.
Anyway some pics for you all

Nice progress so far :)
Is that the engine out off saras old corsa?
Aye it is, going to get a full strip down, replace anything that needs done.
Not much else been happenign so far as i have been trying to get my other car on the road
Well update time, but unfortunatly without pics.
Welding is almost finished and cages is almost complete.
I decided to go the carb route, so sourced a set on thunderace yrf1000r
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00121-1.jpg
carbs for ebay for not to bad money, currently tring to find somplace to make me a inlet, wouldn't be to bad if it wasnt a c16xe and the head ports have to be oval, but hey that the challenge.
Seeing as i cant use a dizzy on this engine i invested in the megajolt ecu, and some Ford edis parts to run it. made myself a loom so here's hoping it works when i install it.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00122-1.jpg
So if all goes to plan it "may" be in paint in about a months time.
thats all for now.:thumb:
looking forward to watching this build :thumb:
Thanks, so am i lol
Once its painted then it should fire on to have it built

Interesting read, lemme know how you get on with that rust remedy stuff. It sounds good on paper
I have used it already mate,
THis is the upper mount for gsi fuel pumps, used the bilthamber solution, mixed with 19 parts water to 1 part powder.
Started with this
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00944.jpg
Now i haven't touched this with anymore than a toothbrush, its was soaked for about 72 hours using the weak solution strength.
This is after
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00946.jpg
There is still some bits of rust, but i believe that it will clear it using the stronger solution

Hmmm cant really argue with that!
I want something to protect my Minty shell
Check out their site at http://www.bilthamber.com/.
They seem to do a good range of removal, prevention treatments

This build is Looking good. Keep at it:thumb:
Re the inlet manifold for the carbs you could try the place I got mine from, I'm not sure if they make them for 16xe or not but worth a try
See the manifold and company contact details in here:

Hope this helps:thumb:
Thanks a lot, i will give them a phone on monday for a price
Well update time again.
Welding is all complete, so to it got a coat of red oxide just to seal it all, then the seams got a coat of 3M bag sealer in the rear arches and fronts also.
So as of tuesday it will get a coat of 3M undersealer then the same again on thursday then its off the spit and back onto her wheels.
Also spoke to the paintshop and they are saying about 6 weeks before they can get it in for paint, so heres hoping.
Now for some pics

Looks really good mate you doing the underside in body colour ?
Will be mint once its done! Keep it up :)
Na its just going black, its never seen so im not really worried

07-09-08, 08:54 PM
Hmm fair point :)
Is all inside going bodycolour then ?
that 3M bag sealer is nifty! Need my SR doing.
See getting the car on to the spit - how did you raise it up so it was level with the prongs or does thr A frame on the spit lower down?
Yeah the bag seal is good stuff, but bloody expensive, 2 bags were around 25 quid, but seems to do a good job.
Its a bit of a pain in the **** to be honest mate!
We usually use a set of big axle stands and a few lads to lift the car up in stages to near enough the right height then slide the spit on.
Well not long before time, but another update.
I eventually decided to get my **** into gear and get some work done to the car.
So i started with my skirts, i wasnt sure if i was going to fit them, but with the rest of the kit used from my GSi i thought it might look out of place,
So a few holes drilled here and there i got the clips on with selftapping screws, so at least i can remove the clips and clean the whole sill if need to, so we have this
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00229.jpg
Not had the rest of the bodywork fitted since the car came in, and the front end went on, so i went about to see what the gaps were like, i forgot what a nova looked like,
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00250.jpg
Also got the bonnet vent fitted that i got from Spanishfly on mig

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/DSC00261.jpg
And now i need to get my new engine picked up from my mate, going for a 2.1 xe thats hads full rebuild and a load of work done, which i will be running on the R1 carbs i have already
Oh and excuse the crap photos, my phone is crap and its all i had:mad:

liking the look of this mean machine!!:thumb:
Well no pics for this update as yet, Picked up my 2.1 xe last week, so need to have a look see whats what with it.
Its been freshly rebuilt but has been sitting about for a while.
Well got some better pics of the engine and now the car, still not done much due to lack of funds, but hoping to have it painted shortly,
So what i have been told about this engine and whats been done is
Rebored to 2.1, lightened and balanced bottom end, headwork im not sure whats been done but both inlet and exhaust ports are smooth as hell, and the guides look like the dont hang into the ports,
Its got standard cams at the moment, so i may be looking to get some in the future at some point.
So anyway on with the pics

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000196.jpg
And some better pics fo the car itself
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000199.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000200.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000201.jpg
Thats all
Engine looks and sounds good. What colours the car going to be ??
Just going bog standard white, im in two minds to paint it with rust-olem way (i.e rollers) or proper paint, its just a toy, just dont see the point of speanding £800+ for paint
I dont like the look of those inlet ports, too smooth.
I know what you mean Adam, i always thought that you needed a bit of roughness lol for the fuel mix, etc
Ok another small update,, not much been going on as cash it tight as per, so still saving for the paint.
So i started on the fuel line, as i am running R1 carbs i dont really need a return, so i was going to just block off the return to the tank, as im running the usual external pump then into a filter king, can anyone see any problems with that?
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000246.jpg
Aslo started on my rear brake line, i thougth about using a bulkhead fitting to go through the original seat belt bolt holes, then on to the rear calipers, just need to get some fittings and get them made up.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000247.jpg
Now i decided againt buying a bogg bro manifold and get a lad local to my workshop to build me my inlet, so i seperated the carbs and after a quick measure decided i had to space them the outer 2 carbs 10mm further out, so spoke to the lad who will turn me up some ally fuel lines and spacers
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000242.jpg
I then moved onto the seats which i won off of Colin on the bay, stripped off the covers and cusions for a good clean, and got them mounted up to where i need them, i still have a good amount of adjustment forwards and back should i need it, and got my cage bolted down, as its not coming out when its painted
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000245.jpg
And got my self a new steering wheel, just need to get a quick release boss now and thats most of the steering done
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000243.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t74/Cheeze1982/New%20Nova/P1000518.jpg
