Can I use Petrol to remove the adhesive left behind from taking rubstrips off?
Or what other chemicals to rip the adhesive to shreds?

use a toffee wheel in a drill to remove the worst of it, the use autoglym tar/glue remover.
DONT use petrol.

T-CUT will do a grand job, but a fudge wheel as Stu suggests is easiest, least elbow greasey way tbh.

Will this (http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=46000&doy=11m3) do it do you think?
thats very expensive (you get less than a shot of the stuff) and its mainly designed for superglue not trim glue.
goto halfords and get some tar and glue remover.
I usually use a bit of meths/white spirit, sparingly, on a cloth. Wash off once done to remove any excess or dry residue from the spirits and give it a good polish and wax to protect the new paint.

Ok cool, so if I got tis glue and tar remover, do I just pull the strips off and douse the foam/adhesive in this stuff and then just scrape it off with something like a credit card or similar?
Have a look in the Articles section, I posted a How To guide on debadging.

sometimes it comes off easier with a heat gun/hair dryer. dont use petrol it evaporates too quick and smugdes the glue every where making it harder to come off.
