My linkage rod-arm snapped where it had been shortened so we welded it back up in the right place.

But now - wherever you position it to set it up, we always only get 4 gears. (either no 1/2 - but 3/4/5 and R, or all but 5th)

we're taking the blacnking ;plug out and locking it, doing that way but still nothing.

Any way to fix it, or new linkage? and what do i need for the linkage?

Why has it been shortened?
It doesn't need modding.

Just needs the white UJ flipping around so it reaches the box.

Just try it with the box in neutral, and the stick held in neutral, then tighten the clamp bolt up. That way never fails me.

white UJ? What you mean?

It was fine before it snapped......

and we have been doing that but never get the gears.

So far we'e wated aboput 4 hours of traial and error over a few weeks.

The joint that has a pin through that joins the linkage to the gearbox.
Thats all that needs changing on the linkage when you fit a xe.

The white plastic bit at the end of the Nova linkage, that connects to the box withn them daft roll-pin type things ... spin it around 180* so it sticks out further, thats all you need to do.

mate in mot sure i have a white plastic part on it!

I know the universal S-joint thats held on by a pinch-pin or whatever.......

but i cant picture the bit you're on about :S

Maybe we refitted it wrong, but i doubt it as it was all kept together.

Yeah thats it.
But you've not flipped it around! lol

Thats probably why you've had cut/weld the linkage.

The white joint.
It needs turning 180deg to make it reach further.
Yours is in the standard position.

in other words. spin it? no removing necessary?

could still work i guess :) fingers crossed :)

If your linkage has been chopped / shortened then even if you spin the plastic bit around its not gonna help things, your gonna have to get another Nova linkage (that hasn't been chopped) then spin the plastic aaround on that one.

From the gear rod clamp bolt
to the gearbox fork yeah.

Who fitted the engine? Sounds like they haven't done many nova xe's before.

Aye, see Ste's pic.
Thats why your linkage has been cut/welded to make it reach....

that linkage is a lot different than mine Ste L.

I reckon they may have used an Astra linkage so needed to shorten it or something.

Now i just have to find a linkage quickly so i can drive my car properly :)

any particular linkage work best or are they all the same?
