I'm assuming its a fox thats gone through one of the grills to end up getting so deep into the 'bay, a bird would disintegrate more on impact! The numberplate is a bit mangled so it also points ot a ground dwelling creature like a fox being has hit at ground level.

A deer tends to go over the bonnet and into the windscreen as its higher up. A friend knocked down a deer some years ago in his Granada and the impact was enough to smash it's front legs off. The Granada was a write off after this impact at 30-35mph and he was lucky it didn't go through the 'screen entirely.
