Not sure if this is in the right place, however.....

I have just bought some SRi steels to put on my XE Nova and have just been looking at tyres. The original tyres are 175/65 R14 but I want to go slightly wider and am wondering if it would be beneficial to drop down to a lower profile?

I know my speedo reading will be slightly out but is there anything else that could cause me problems. 185/60 R14 tyres would maintain similar rolling radius but I can't find any decent make ones?

Cheers

Can you get that size in a 50 profile? Know you can get them in 55 - Standard size on Fiesta RS Turbo's. Also only made by limited manufacturers IIRC.

Yokohama do the A539 in that size. Found them on www.camskill.co.uk

I'm using 185/60 R14 Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front, and Goodyear Excellences in the same size on the back. Both are great tyres for grip in the wet. The Excellences cost me ?47 a corner fitted locally, I think the F1's were slightly more but they're now unavailable in that size.

I was using 185 55 14s - they are also standard fitment for the Saxo VTS iirc

Its a shame the SR steels weren't another inch wider, then you could have fitted 195 45 14 Toyo Proxes T1-Rs

185/60 is such a common size tyre. Cant believe you are struggling to find them. As has been said elsewhere, 55 profile 185 is a Saxo VTR size & should be readily available. You should get some good acceleration with the 50's if you buy some.

I'm looking for Yokohama or Toyo's as not sure which other brands are any good and i've got experience of these two.

Been looking on the tyre websites and they bring loads of tyres up in 185/55 or 185/60 but none that i've really heard good things about.

I'm looking at similar size tyres and am unsure whats best. I have picked up a cheap set of Astra GTE alloys which are 14" and 5.5" wide. I was hoping to get the rolling radious as low as possible so was contemplating 195/45/14 but thought they may be too wide for the rim? Alternatives seem to be 185/55/14 or 185/50/14 and all seem widely available for similar costs?

Anyone using these sizes and got any pics of how they look on the rims?

The 195 45 14 tyres need at least 6" wide rims :(

Thought that might be the case. 185/50/14 it is then.
