how difficult is it to raise the back of my bonnet (to let hot air escape) i'm told i need blocks or something, i've had a quick look through projects but not seen one. Any one able to tell me what i need and how to do it ?

Cheers

You need to put blocks of anything (even wood) between the brackets and the bonnet itself, and get longer screws. It is that simple.

Also, be warned that this thread will gradually turn into an arguement over whether or not there is any benefits to be had by raising the bonnet :thumb:

i know it doesn't do to much, but i think it looks pretty cool and at some point i'll be wacking some twin 40's on, then it might do a little to keep the bay cool. Any one got any pics, or know a thread that has ?

Agree'd it looks cool! Gives the car more of a track look.

i did this to my old AX gt and it looked cool heres a pic i know its not a nova but gives you the idea

, all i did was all a couple of nuts between the bonnet and the arms that the bonnet rests on wish, i had a pic to show u how easy it is!!

you will get other associated problems like if the engine leaks any oil, it could get blown onto the screen. or the extra smells getting into the cockpit because the bulkhead won't seal them out. you might get more wind noise.
but it really is as simple as fitting some spacers to the hinges.

TBH I think it looks sh!t, like you've smacked the front end and the bonnet has bent lol

If you want it to be functional, then remove the bulkhead behind the inlet. Even then, due to airflow and pressures over the bonnet you'll probably find it won't have the desired effect. Look at a car with vents (standard fit vents, and not scoops) on the bonnet - where are they located? At the front or middle of the bonnet.

this is a very good point that has been raised. even vapours from engine breathers, carb blow back, weeping exhaust manifold will dirty the screen

fair enough, i suppose due to popular opinion i'd better not bother doing it then.

back facing louvers are probably better.

i also dont know how much it would help as ive heard there is a pressure pile at the base of the windscreen caused by the glass.

Yup, hence why there's the vents on the scuttle panel under the windscreen - air is pushed through these vents and supplies the interior fan.

If you want it from a styling perspective, go ahead - if we all told you to put jap bumpers and tsw venoms on would you do it? :D

Just don't expect it to be functional, and keep some windolene on hand for when the screen gets greasy! lol

I agree with Jack. It looks utter toss.

Leave it to the Escort & Civic boys IMO.

Its one of them easy mods that any pleb with a cheap tool kit & some bits of wood (LOL) can do as a weekend project.

to be honest i have a problem keeping my windscreen clear as it is, i never thought about it making the windscreen dirty, thats a bit No No, i have to clean it enough as it it, might make some vents down the bonnet where the middle of it is raised slightly (if anyone gets what i mean) or is that a problem as well due to the bonnets design??

un less your running a very modded engine, you only want the coldest air you can get going into the induction. if you make the engine actually run colder normally it makes it less efficent.
