Hav recently purchased a nova hatch off one of my mates for ?50! so it is being part rebuilt as some ares need some attention, anyway here are some off the pics of what i have got. Battery tray is totally goe and so is the rear panel as u can probably tell lol turning the front end back to a mk 1 as thats what it should be! oredered replacement parts for the panel and battery tray

good luck with it mate.. get her minty :thumb:

Thats exactly what im going to do matey certain things will be going in her like a carbon fibre dashboard and a 3.0 v6 on the 31st off this month

Dave.
08-03-08, 03:34 PM
cool matey, will be ace to see her restored to ehr former glory :thumb:

is she going back white? as i know gra's spayed that with rattle cans lol

P Whack
08-03-08, 03:35 PM
Yeah matey im thinking she shall be going back to white as it will look the best imo

08-03-08, 04:34 PM
Nice! Its a 1ltr mate, and whoever drilled the airbox did it in completely the wrong place - it will be drawing in un filtered air there!! Doesn't really matter tho as your planning on ripping it all out anyway!

DW-Nova
08-03-08, 08:06 PM
looks like a good base for a project, and the bodywork dosnt look that bad hey, i like the sound of a carbon dash! and the engine choice sounds very good! are you going to make the carbon dash yourself? good luck with this project, p.s i reckon that you should put some white pearl in the paint, this would look amazing.

P Whack
08-03-08, 09:14 PM
That seems like quite a good idea still keeping it white with a twist, yeah will be making the dash myself with a friend, hopefully the week after the engine has gone in

Mike
08-03-08, 09:35 PM
Thats a 1.0 3cyclinder pushrod. Nova's never had 1.1 engines.

You ever messed with Carbon Fibre before? I have, lots of times.....its anything but fapping easy! Good luck making a carbon dash lol you'll be needing it

P Whack
08-03-08, 09:42 PM
I know its a 1 litre was a moment of madness and cant change it now lol yeah me and my mate have made a whole back end for a nova made in carbon fibre so should be able to make a dash from it

Leeboo
08-03-08, 09:57 PM
Good luck with the project mate, any Nova is cheap at ?50!

Mike, is the 1.0 not 4 cylinder? I have one and believe its 4 cylinder? :wtf:

Shaun_O'Donnell
09-03-08, 07:10 AM
Yeah, it's a 4 cylinder. The exhaust manifold only has 3 branches which is why some think it's 3 cylinders.

Count the leads on the distributor cap.

lee coley
09-03-08, 07:25 AM
was just about to say 4 cylinder.

P Whack
09-03-08, 10:44 AM
Yeah it is a 4 cylinder but that wont matter shortly lol

Just got these wheels courtesy of shaun O'donnell for the brillaint sum of ?50, got them today and just sent them for a refurb thinking of gettin 175/50 r15's so the tyres look a little stretched over the rims

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc41/davies1644/05-04-08enginebeingremoved.jpg

got it out and this is what the bay looked like, bit of surface rust but all in all not too bad

then set about welding the harry hockley kit with the help of my friend

07-04-08, 08:52 PM
Have done some more on it today didnt get as far as would be liked but removed the well and truely battered battery tray

new one in

then with the new tray in started to prep the bay for paint

http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc41/davies1644/Image006-2.jpg

next was the spraying, didnt turn out as good as hoped due to silicon still being in the bay so got lots of fish eyes in the paint but will sort this tomorrow

you not seam or stitch welding the engine bay?

surely its got to be a must with a v6?!?

looking good though, nice job on the battery tray :)

P Whack
07-04-08, 09:20 PM
Have had this conversation about this with many people and the more rigid the chassis is the less it has to flex which means its more likely to crack. My mate has built several of these before and was always driven full chat, that didnt even have the harry hockley kit and lasted 18 months

R1CH
07-04-08, 09:29 PM
It lasted 18 month then what ... fell apart ?? Think i'd of been getting the front end seem welded, a 3.0 V6 is gonna be a fair weight !!
Would it not have been worth trial fitting the engine before painting it ?
Bet it took longer to mask all them bits in the bay than it would've to remove them !!

P Whack
07-04-08, 09:31 PM
Yeah probably did mate, no before it got its first crack in the chassis leg which is longer than most v6's last, i know the engine will fit as have done these conversions before so will bolt straight in after some spacers and things being made for the v6 mounts

Mike
07-04-08, 09:35 PM
By "Fish Eyes" I assume you mean Cissing?

Like so...

P Whack
07-04-08, 09:35 PM
yeah mate thats what i mean

chimp007_uk
07-04-08, 09:37 PM
So you're saying 18months is the longest you're hoping for it to last? A V6 will last longer than that... Even driving it hard! a friend of mine has a couple of V6 omega's he uses for drifting, and they're happy as larry. might burn a little bit of oil now but thats 2years serious abuse!

Surely you're own safety and peace of mind tells you to weld it. You say if you weld it, it's more likely to crack. but then you said it cracked without... As rich said with the extra weight and large amounts of torque ripping at the chassis, common sense tells you to weld it.

Have a look through the forum at non welded xe conversion accidents...

cheers mike much appreciated,

the engine will last longer than 18 months, and im not saying it wont the worst that will happen is it will crack the front chassis leg which means theyll need to be replaced my own safety will be sorted out with a roll cage

cheers mike much appreciated,

No worries cheif, you will find several coats of paint over the top of the cissing effect will make it dispurse, as the chemicals in the paint break down the residue that caused the cissing.

However, to much paint will result in sags and runs :thumb: which then require more prep to remove them and the whole paint application process has to start again lol

Sounds like an average day for me at work lol (Decorator :thumb: )

I agree about fitting the engine before painting the bay though, it will get scratched to fcuk trying to hoist a v6 beast in there lol

or if dont want to scrach paint put the engine in from under the car lift car with the hoist drag engine under car drop car would probley be easyer as well pluss paint shouldnt get that scratched

P Whack

that is the easy way as the engine wont fit in from the top unless you remove the slam panel, the bits which can be seen will be resprayed again if scratched it was too make sure the whole bay got sprayed

08-04-08, 08:05 PM
Did they build up the areas that were damaged?

Please, repair and take a look at that. The V6 weights too much!!!

And I must say that the weaker part is the rear. I am currently welding new supports for the rear springs and almost the whole rear arches. And I must make them in my own, as they are no more available on stock.

Cheers.

Their some big rust holes lol if you are doing a v6 conversion use the cav inlet as its much easier than the 3L ecu and inlet as it doesnt have an immobiliser, just need to work out where the plugs go and it will be running fine

lol is it! Not on the Nova's ive had lol Then you've been lucky. Almost half of the novas i've seen had very important rust problems.

And the fact is that the rust is under the paint, you don't see it. Aparently, the front of my Corsa was healthier than the one of P Whack. But once you remove the paint... you only find big holes.

any chance of a parts list and more info on the exhaust build??

P Whack
08-05-08, 11:39 PM
Parts list isnt much really cav 22 spline inners with the standard driveshaft, or gsi one, custom made mount , cut a notch out of the exhaust and re weld then little bit of fettling to get in small notch out the gear box casing and cut the bolt down a little that holds it, but other than only the engine and ecu, will get a video up soon, took it out again just before and oh my god i know what not steering or being in control is like now!!!! lol

Simply put mate it is, the only reason this took so long is because we didnt have half the parts at the start so had to fins them as we went and also because we used the 3 litre ecu and inlet which wasnt easy to get on, will get some more pics up soon of what some of the parts look like that you need

Good work there - this isn't an easy transplant. How does it handle - I've always assumed that the engine and gearbox would a bit heavier again than a 2 liter and therefore would be very inclined to understeer?

im sure with the correct suspension, and tyres it would turn quite well :thumb:

still after a photo of that mount ;)

the mount is pretty simple tbh. pice of place with 3 holes for the engine to bolt to, pice of plate with 2 holes for the top mount, there welded together and a strengthener inbetween top triangulate it.

26-05-08, 12:25 PM
Obviously its a load of crap/\

How can a 6pot engine(with more wires, sensors, bigger inlet, 4cams etc etc) weight the same as a 4pot. Impossible

yeah but theres more power, more touque to carry it lol

iv done this, weighted a c25xe and a c20 xe with out gearbox's and fly wheels, but complete with everything else
the c25 is only 7.3kg more :) stick the fly wheels on and it goes to about 18kg more lol

so fit a c20 fly and clutch on and away you go :)
