dizzy problems

hi, a friend of mine on this site has just taken the black cap dizzy off his 1.4 sri engine,

basically he fitted the 1.2 cam and dizzy set up to get the car running,

now he has re fitted the 1.4 sri cam and has bought a distributor from a 1.6 mk3 cav (carbed car) as it is the red cap style,

we have fitted the dizzy to the cam but it does not seem to spark,

he still has the standard black cap coil, the square one. and we just assumed the two wires from the old dizzy would just plug into the new dizy, but we get no spark,

i seem to remember the coil from the red cap dizzy being a round coil and there being a black little box under the coil. will he need the different sort of coil to run the red cap dizzy,

i really cant remember as its been a long time since ive had novas lol

the whole ignition system should be swapped.... there could be a ballast resistor somewhere.

ok, cheers, but does the cav coil come with a ingnition module built in/on and is it the round one that i mentioned
