Standard GTE wheels

Hi, I've just bought a January 89 nova GTE with Vauxhall 3 spoke 14" wheels, I not sure did the GTE come out standard with these wheels fitted or were they an extra? If not what wheels should she have come with? This is the only mod (if a mod) I can see on the car and leaves me to believe that she always had them, its a 3 owner car from new with the middle owner owning it for 14years.

It most likely rolled out of the factory with them on. They were an optional extra on the SR models.

Yeah are standard on GTE/GSI

I think they definately came standard on GSi's, but maybe not on GTE's. I have seen GTE's with 14" hub caps on steels, these look more original imo. I think John H is selling some!

The 3 spoke GM alloys were optional on GTE & SR. The GTE had 5x14" steels with hub caps as std. Sr was on 13" steels unless alloys fitted.

Tyres were 175/65/14" on GTE or 165/65/13" on an SR.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't too sure, a local garage had new old stock SR/GTE steel rims on sale a few years ago and I check with them the other day and they think that there is still some in stock, though a set of mint 3 spoke with nice new quality tyres will be nice too. The novas all worn Michelins from new?

There are 4.5J and 5J (inches wide) versions of the 3 spoke alloys, just to make sure you're aware.

My neighbour who had a GSi when it was a few years old always put on Michelin MVX2 tyres iirc - I don't know if these were standard fit or even if these are still available but you can bet that tyre technology has moved on a bit since then so they aren't 'The Don' tyres that they were then!

My '85 1.3SR has 4.5" rims originally, think they were phased out soon after and 5J introduced

Will do when she get to her new home, just got a call saying she just been loaded onto the lorry and will be with me tomorow, can't wait it's about 8 years form I had a performance nova though I had a daily driver nova about 6 years ago. 5dr lux and it was mint!

yep,as craig says, they were optional extras on gte's. They had trims on 5j black painted steel rims. And yeah they had mich's as standard fit.
