what is the difference beween the c20xe and the 20xe?
howmany types of xe engines is there power wise?,as ive heard there are different power figures ie,astra gte 156 bhp, cav sri 147 bhp etc is this a myth and they all have the same power figures,or is there a difference between them early/later specs?just need to clear a few of these stories up;)

Maybe when new. Nowadays, there all going to be down on power until theyre given a refresh.

C20 has lambda, 20 doesnt :)

Late dispack engines run cast pistons and a iron crank.

Management is different as is the exhaust cam and cambelt setup.

I can't say I've known of any of the 2l 16v redtops being under 150hp in factory spec.

C20XE was the coded added for engines that met euro 1 emmision standards,
These had a CAT fitted to meet the regs, and this dropped the power from the 156bhp the 20xe had to 150 that the c20xe had. You will only find 20xes in early MK2 astra GTE 16vs.

The general concensus is later DISPAC XEs had slightly more than 150 brake and once the CAT is removed tend to release a little more power than when removing the CATs from the earlier dizzy C20XEs. However as every engine is different its hard to prove this.

I have DISPAK Xe and i love it, especially for being 160k old and producing around 170bhp, just from the ait filter and DECAT zorst. I firmly beleive its the DISPAK model that gives it the edge.

the 'C' from teh code doesnt not mean it has a CAT... I thought it did, until I stripped 3 cavs and and an astra 'C20XE' from 1989-90 and none had CATS...

:wtf:

Unless it does and all 4 cars had engine conversions! lol

"C" just means it conforms to EC 91/1441/EEC or US '83 emissions regulations, unsure how strict those regulations are to require a cat.

As an aside, just looking at the porous head guide on topbuzz here (http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/porous_heads/porous_heads.htm). According to the info there, its a problem that only affects C20XE engines, doesn't say about 20XE ones - have they just missed out on listing the 20XE, or are all 20XE engines fitted with coscast heads?

Bear in mind just because UK models (with C20XE) didnt have catalytic converters fitted, the models were ready to accept them depending on the specific countries emmissions laws. By 1990 many european countries (sweden for one) specified cats were needed. In the UK, GM were able to leave it off & save a considerable cost in the cars exhaust until in Aug 92 when the law changed regarding the emmissions.

Coscast heads pretty much turn up randomly accross any age engine now. I've had 3 XE's (2 20XE & 1 C20XE) none were Coscast.

Quickest engine of the 3 I had was a C20XEJ. felt really torquey low down for some reason. Pulled all the way to the limiter at 7k with no issues at all.

"J" is apparently "throttled output"?! :wtf:

I had mk2 H reg astra gte 16v with 20xe, it wasnt a coscast.
