View Full Version : A Reg Turbo Project
Regretted selling my old white xe nova, now decided to get another and do a complete rebuild. This time going for a LET. Plans are for phase 3 but thats a long way off yet. Been a nova sitting near me for about 7 years, it was put on ebay last week so went to view it. Rear arches need replacing, could do with sills as well as 2 doors. Anyway i won it on ebay today and picked it up straight away.

Front panel looks good for its age!

No holes, little bit of surface rust

Been off the road for a whilelol

The battery tray seems a bit crispy i havent yet had a proper look. Its been sitting with wet leaves/trapped water so im expecting a nice hole. Otherwise it seems good in the boot floor, around suspension mounts, behind headlights etc..
Stuck at college until friday now so cant work on it until then. But will hopfully get all the interior out, bumpers/wings when i get back.
Welcome back to the world of nova's chap!! Looking forward to this one!

looks a nice base to start with
Bit of an update. Go around to stripping it after college on friday. Most of it is as i first thought, rear of the car is like it left the factory. Inner wings on the front are cleaner than i was expecting, front wings need replacing though as they have both rotted at the bottom.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1834.jpg
Battery tray is just as i thought it would be and has a nice hole, not too much of a problem.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1838.jpg
Front panel looked good
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1837.jpg
But on closer inspection found some bad rot on the lower crossmember :(
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1836.jpg
Not as good as i first thought but nothing thats not repairable. Not sure whether to get a new lower crossmember or to just plate it over. The hole is quite big and its structural, so swaying more towards a new complete panel.

looks quite tidy for its age mate, i'd go for a complete new lower front panel personally and a whole new battery tray aswell as the obvious other bits, whats the long term plans with the car then, stripped out, show, ICE, etc etc, what colour you planning on painting it and engine etc good luck with the build.
If your handy with a welder, why not fabricate something to replace the front cross member. Since it's going to be a LET you will be stuck for space in the front. So it may turn out to be a worth while exercise. Some of the other LET powered cars have already done this sort of thing. Well worth looking in to.
Good luck with the project :thumb:
I like that idea dar, but the hole is a bit too close to the tie bar mounting to save it. Ive only got a mig 150 i dont know whether thats going to be good enough for the front panel or stitch welding the bay etc so i might have to get somone else to do it for me. I can definatly see me needing the space so will look into it closer once the engines out. Anyone used a mig 150 for stitch welding the engine bay before? Should i get a stonger welder or will it be ok? Ive never done any serious welding before but would like to learn and this is the perfect chance.
The plans for the car at the moment are
C20LET running evo 5 approx 300brake
quaiffe LSD
possibly 5 stud conversion for calibra turbo rims (off donor calibra)
Full respray inside and out in matt black
Keeping it mk1 theres too many mk2s about
Smoothed front/rear gte bumpers. Front bumper bigmouthed
6 point cage, with bucket seats/harnesses
Keeping the dash and heaters for when i cant see anything through winter lol
Choice of colour may change if the projects going well, i dont want a poor colour choice to ruin the car but at the moment i think it could work for a sort of 'rat' look
craig green

Looks an OK shell to begin with. Battery tray is easily sorted, cross member is best off removed & something custom fabbed up to give you more room for an intercooler. Rear end looks really good.
Plans sound good, high spec LEt & big thumbs up for keeping her mk1. I'd keep to the original colour myself.
Keep at it. Get that old 8v out & stitch her up. 150 should be fine for that & plating btw. Just the cross member that needs a beefy welder really.

Doesn't look like a bad shell you have there mate
She'l be all good once shes sorted up - Keep it old skool too :)
Matt black? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Keep it silver :thumb:

bloody hell how rusty
Bit more progress today, not so much on the nova. Pulled the engine out of the nova over the bank holiday but havent had time to do anything else on that.
The progress is the fact i sold my astra on friday night, to help with funds. Saturday morning, my dad found me a runaround while walking the dog for until i finish the nova. Always wanted one :)
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1873.jpg
Needs the brakes sorting out, hopfuly just need a bleed, brake fluid looks like water and then mot.
I then rung up a sealed a deal to collect my donor car. 82k calibra turbo, picked up up this morning. Left at 7am was home by 11. Spent the day pulling the engine out. Only problem is the oil was like milkshake, the guy said it had a recon head on it but its mixing water/oil again. He reckoned new block was needed. Got it anyway so will get it all checked out, use an xe block if needed.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1871.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/100_1878.jpg
My new panels have arrived so next weekend im going to make a start on the rear arches/sills.
Now thats how you remove an engine
cut the fooking slam panel off lol
Nice work
bloody hell how rusty
Does't look to bad really, pretty gone in the same places as my A reg did, my cross member was ok tho.
A reg LET ... its the way forward !!
Excellent start to the project rich! Looks like the cally has seen better days, did you drive it back?
Lovin the bin lid too!
Nah didnt drive it back, mate collected it on his truck. I havent even run it properly, the oil/waters mixed big time would only ruin the engine.
It had been sittin about 2 years and fired on the button with a jump start. Im going to get the head/block pressure tested when i rebuild it. Hopfully its just a porus head replaced with another porus head, how likely is it going to be a block at 82k?
And tbh, the cally was actually in pretty good nick apart from the fact its had a rear end impact (police car apparently lol). Just the engine is the only thing calibras are good for
tbh i've never heard of a block failing? I reckon you're right with the head, pressure test before the block, easy fix whilst it's off.
Yeah. ive just read its not likely that the oil fills with water and that its usually oil in the coolant system? The oil was THICK cream when i drained it

fkin nice - mk1's are the sh!t - she'll be an apsolute beast, without a doubt.
love that one piece front bumper, i wanna convert my mk2 to a mk1 with that bumper, ditch the alloys for some steelies with sticky rubber too, keeping it sleeper.
u aint been hanging about, good progress man, hope the turbo goes it with minimal probs, helping a m8 put a 2 litre xe in his mk2 at the mo, were running into all sorts of probs, but slowly conquering them one by one, keep it up, goodsh!t.
Just a quick update. Not much interesting at the moment been trying to sort out my mass of cars so the nova hasnt really done anything. I got the mot on the mini all working fine, taxed it. Driving home from the mot station/work and it cut out on me, wouldnt turn over. Suspect the chain has snapped. Happened last monday, i pushed it to side of the road and havent been back to it since! Calibra is out my way now so nova can be worked on. :)
Decided to start on some smoothing of my grill/bumpers as it keeps raining on/off and i dont want bare metal being exposed on the nova. Plus dont fancy welding in the rain. Grill is finished and in primer, impressed as its my first attempt with filler. Cant see any sign of where it was filled so now onto the harder task smoothing my front/rear gte bumpers.
Before
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/grill1.jpg
after
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/smoothedgrill.jpg
Bumper still needs quite a bit of work
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/smoothingbumper.jpg
And the postman brought me a present saturday, got bored on ebay lol
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/intercooler2.jpg
Project still moving just very slowly, hopfully sorted a garage now so progress will move alot quicker when theres no need to worry about rain/snow.
Also changed my mind on the matt black as i want to do more smoothing to the body work like door locks/handles/petrol cap. I just dont think matt black would do it justice, plus i wouldnt be able to polish it up nice. Thinking more along a pearl black/purple.
Not very interesting but just a quick update.
I finally began cutting the rear arches to fit the new repair panels to find they were full of filler and completly rotton down the sills. At the moment ive got another A reg sitting on my drive which is near on spotless apart from a dink in the passenger rear quarter. Ive decided not to use the silver one and use my red one that was supposed to be my run around.
If anyones interested in the shell let me know otherwise it will be going scrap. Im hoping for a payout from work at the end of the month so will update the thread then when i get the fitting kit and make a real start.
Not really i was planning on starting a new thread soon with more progress, i was making progress but my welder packed up after about 15mins lol
Im currently sticking a 2ltr in my corsa sri runaround so the nova is on hold for the moment. Plus ive had lack of money/time. Worst thing is its now getting dark early so even less chance of working on it, need to invest in some floodlights
This is how it sits at the momemnt, mates welding a new front panel in somtime soon-ish, did start but thats when the welder packed up. Once its in i can trial fit the engine and start cleaning it up more for painting.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00015.jpg
Ive just qualified my apprenticship as a vauxhall tech too, payrise coming at the end of the month so the build should start picking up very quickly as i will have real money instead of peanuts in my pay packet :) Thinking bigger plans now though lol
Cool :)
Hope to see some more progress soon :)

Oh any updates? or a new WIP thread any where?
Scott
PS: is that a rear GTE bumper? as i thought they had the big splitter type extension lip on the bottom
Yes thats a gte rear bumper, the splitter had been cut so removed it, got a new one under my bed lol
Was going to update once my welding was finished, anytime its not raining my mate cant come round
Front panel has been welded on, 3 1/4 of the stitch welding in the bay is done. Bought a cage off JonL which has been placed in, but thats all
Some progress pics, will update properly once its moving, i was hoping to of had the engine in and back out by now but being held up :(
Cut chassis leg for alternator
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC00008.jpg
Didnt cut across the bottom, instead used a hammer to curve it around, thought it looked a bit neater.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC00010.jpg
Welded this myself, wasnt happy with it hence reason ive asked a mate to stitch weld the bay for me.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC02260.jpg
Mate has done most of the stich welding/strengthening plates
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC02279.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC02278.jpg
New front panel on
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC02277.jpg
sell the starlet and get this finished!
Starlet is too good to turn down for the price :(
I will make some good money when i come to sell it, but cant sell it for at least 2/3 months. The only reason im getting it at this price from work
Heres a pic of the rollcage put in place (full 6 point but not put front section in yet) Not sure what make it is, but it seems very nice for quality,

http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/new%20nova/DSC02276.jpg
Looks like its going to be a good project. Shell looks good considering its been around over 2 decades. Keep at it!!:thumb:
Cheers shell is good, especially being an A reg.
Good news is may mate should be coming round on saturday to finish the welding. If it goes to plan i may be trial fitting my engine sunday or new years/next weekend so should have somthing a bit more interesting to show!
Another update! not much, welding is all finished in the engine bay now.
Front panel is all welded on fully now, all the stitch welding is finished, strengthening plates all welded on.
Slam panel has been cut out, will be having it bolt on/off like most, much more access to the front of the engine/turbo this way.
Job today was fit the engine so i can see where the gearbox mount needs to be welded! Now realised i only have one drivers side engine rubber so need another before lining up the gearbox mount. So nice to have the engine in, cant remember my old nova having so little room at the cambelt end! Going to have to grind away at the bottom of the passenger chassis leg to clear the gearbox, otherwise all seems straight forward now. Once the mounts welded on i can start trial fitting everything like cooler pipes etc :thumb:
Now some pics

nice to see it in, btw fitted that new loom to the engine and the ecu light has turned off now, it was just the wireing to the camshaft sensor that was a t fault, but it still didnt fix the problem unfortunatly so it looks like its going to be hte idle control valve next. got one for sale :D?

He's just trial fitting the engine so he can weld on the 6 speed mount Scott.

Got one for the let, not for sale though lol Can fit it and try if you want, or i can see if my mates got one
Cheers keith, be looking better when im not working on it/its finished lol
Scott im just trial fitting the engine at the moment. I need my mate to weld on my mount for the f28, then im going trial fit everything, move rad to middle, make slam panel bolt on/off and run all the wiring/ boost hoses etc. Trying to decide whether i want to go though all the hassle of hiding the wiring loom.
Also trying to work out what colour i want it :( I wanted white, then a dark black/purple, then decided to keep the origional colour but now dont know. Need to decide soon though!
edit- also got a couple of questions. My mate that did the welding has seam sealed all the stitch welding etc. I dont mind the stuff underneath/out of sight but the engine bay seams look a mess. Is it wise sanding it back so its neater or would i be ok just getting rid altogether? its survived 25 years without!
Also how close to the chassis leg has everyone mounted the f28? At the moment its sitting on/touching the lower lip of the chassis rail, obviously would drop when its on rubber mounts has anyone grinded out the chassis leg to raise it up or not needed to?
scott.parker
29-01-09, 11:47 PM
I say no seam seal the stuff seams to increas the chance of rot, let damp sit under it IMO.
Scott
what you mean with the g'box mount?
Good work mate btw! :)

I prefer without seam sealer.
You shouldn't have to touch the chassis lip, should clear without.
Not really anything interesting, no pictures anyway. Gearbox mount is welded on, ive moved the rad forward and centralised it. This weekend ill be cutting the front panel and bumper to fit the intercooler. Looks very tight in there lol
Never remember to take pics ill get some at the weekend and do an update
Good progress so far, quick question how have you prepped your rear bumper for the filler? it looks as if you have applyed it straight on to the paint? it wont stick if you have and will fall out. the best way to go about it is to sand it with a harsh grit e.g p80 or p120 fill the ridges with tigerseal its a lot more flexible than filler, rub the sealant back and apply a skim of filler you wont have to worry about it cracking or falling out then.
Rear bumper had a good sanding with harsh grit (40 i think) in the grooves as well, filler applied over the top of that. Never heard of tigerseal being used before. Never done anything really bodywork wise so its all new to me. If it doesnt work ill try again thanks for the advice.
Ok time for an update, hopfully a bit more interesting. Made a bit more progress, gearbox mount all welded on.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02338.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02333.jpg
Now the engines in position i moved the rad over into the middle and brought forward. Cut the front panel out ready to weld the box section for the intercooler to sit in.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02343.jpg
Made sure it was deep enough for the intercooler, decided it would have to sit out from the bumper slightly as i didnt want to move the rad any further back!
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02350.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02354.jpg
Plenty of clearance from the turbo, and room for a fan (should come in post this week)
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02364.jpg
Tabs welded on for intercooler to sit on.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02356.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02362.jpg
Cut the bottom of the bumper bar so that it clears the intercooler. Perfect fit
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02359.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02360.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02365.jpg
Then trial fitted up bumper, put lights and grill on as well just to see what it would look like. First time its looked like a car in a year! Won't be using this bumper btw, i have another one ill be cutting properly. This is just a mock up as the bumper was scrap anyway.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02370.jpg
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC02372.jpg
Next need to order my boost hoses. Quite worrying as they are quite expensive (they are only hoses! ) and untill ive ordered them i wont know if they are the right bends etc. Hope ive worked it out right!

Dont think anything is going to happen with that now, not going to work with 3 of us building it. Only progress was ripping the drivers sill out with my hands after an accident with an axel stand when taking the rear beam off lol

am i the only one who has noticed that the car has changed colour from sliver to red? other than that good project .. hopefully gonna start my c20let project soon :D:D
Silver one ended up scrapped, this red one was going to be my runaround but was a better shell so used this instead.
Once i started poking at the sills and arches realised they were full of filler :(
Update
Got my cage bolted in, going to weld the spready plates on under the car so they wont be seen, think it will be neater that way.

Sat in it making racecar noises and dump valve noises for about 30mins lol Cobra imola 2's, much more comfy than my old corbeau sprints.
So onto todays work, mate came round to help me with my rear arches/sills. (read that as me watch him doing it..)

Welding in the new arch

Now onto the sill, only replaced the rear part as the rest was solid.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC00005-1.jpg
And first skim of filler, will carry on with the rest tomorrow.
http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p24/novarich/DSC00006-2.jpg
Also got a zx wiper linkage so will get on with fitting that soon

26-07-09, 02:11 PM
i need to do my arches to but my gaffer said i would be better doing 2 full quarters
I wish i had gone for full 1/4s now, would have beena lot neater and less filler.
Is that your white gte? was the car that made me want a mk1/smooth gte bumpers. Even did a photoshop of it with an intercooler hidden away lol
16v Nova Kev
26-07-09, 02:18 PM
im getting more into just doing quarters i want to keep the car as long as i can so may aswell bite the bullet. i can get quarters for 75 each. the white one is not mine i just liked the photo and im going for smooth bumpers too
Spent a bit more time on it today, got my zx wiper linkage bolted in. Pretty much a perfect fit, only thing i may do is weld another bracket in to help support it but its not vital. Hole lined up perfect when i drilled it first time, which suprised myself lol No pic as it didnt come out on my phone for some reason?
Cut my front panel to clear the afm to turbo pipe, fitted my boost hoses up. The way i planned on using them didnt work out, but luckily my mistake worked out and they are perfect and neater than i had planned. Tight fit but they are all on there :)

iv missed summit ?? wasnt this silver ??
Yeah im kind of useless with the updates and forgot to even mention im using a new shell. The silver one seemed good until i started cutting out for the rear arches and realised somone had fillered over rust and stuck bits of metal in. This was origionally going to be a runabout but as it was a decent shell i decided to use this one instead and scrapped the silver one.

I see you followed my guide on relocating the rad and using a bolt through the panel to pull it forward. Make sure when the bonnet comes down the hook clears the rad :thumb:

Yes checked and it goes behind the rad so clears, bolt through the panel is perfect idea!:thumb:
Red one is an A reg, '84 not '83 though :(
Thanks for the comments guys
Not done as much as i'd have like mainly me being lazy. Mate came round today to get going on the drivers side arch, now realise i didnt take any pics. I had a week off so spent some time on the engine bay, decided to start doing a little smoothing.
First arch almost done

2.25"
cooler to inlet ive got a 90deg bend, 2 45deg a bit of straight and another 45deg
turbo to cooler i have a straight 2" - 2.25" reducer, 135deg bend and 2 90deg bends
Just make sure you order the right sizes first time, my poor measurement skills and hope didnt work out lol

i have got a few hoses atm, waiting on my intercooler to come from forge.:d
Havent got alot done lately, mostly been buying bits for it. Main reason for an update was my photobucket account was about to be closed because i hadent updated it in so long lol
Last few months havent seen any work on the shell as ive been sorting a unit out so ive got somwhere decent to work on it rather than the drive. We have finally settled into the unit so hopfully i will have some time to work on the car now! My aim is to have it sprayed in january-feb, then will be a case of bolting things together.
Currently in the process of building the engine, (ive managed to pick up 2 cracked c20let blocks!!) I am now using a 20xe block as it was free, just need the return drilled and tapped for me and valve guides replaced so i can build it all up.

Good work Rich, unit looks nice, new and clean
nice unit, how much that setting you back? if you dont mind me asking.
Its £500 a month :( Shared with a mate its about 700sq ft. Too expensive for what i want really but cant find anywhere else at the moment
Thats dedication mate, thats the same price as my house, per month, is that with bills and rates included?
no lol
Supposed to be paying buisness rates as well even though its for personal use! Ive spent more time working on other cars/buying selling cars to pay rent. We havent been up there for a couple of weeks and falling behind now :(
Rates are nearly £150, we havent paid them as yet. Sucks being near london, everything i find is cheaper but a good hours drive at least!

Nice unit indeed. Know the feeling - had one for €450 a month (roughly 350 in proper money) for over 4 years. Finally sorted myself out and bought a house with a double garage. Much better, although the garage is less than half the unit - but hey, can't complain as the wife can now bring me tea! :thumb:

Been getting the car ready for the bodyshop, have now decided on colours and where its going to be sprayed. Guy said as soon as im ready give him a call and can get it underway!
Tasks have been smoothing off he doors where the rivets were, finishing up the rear arches and now moved onto the inside.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00089.jpg

Any advice for getting the remainder off? Was going to try a bit of rag and white spirit?
scott.parker
29-01-10, 06:37 PM
Not white spirits mate, best off with thinners/panel wipe, or petrol, but dont stay in the car too long while doing it! lol
Looking good, im in exactly the same process as you. Im going to wire wheel any remainder and then use some thinners to remove excess stickyness.
How hard you reckon it is to refit the headliner? Im going to take mine out tomorrow and will need a replacement at some time.
Keep up the good work.

No more pics of the car, mates been helping me with the front bumper. I forgot to take pics of the latest progress, but will have another update soon. Started off with cutting to clear the front mount, but left with odd cutouts each side of the fmc

So spare bumper got cut up,
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00015-1.jpg

and onto engine work! Seem to have a few pictures missing,
Had an early xe block drilled and tapped to use it as a let block as ive now had 2 cracked let blocks! one cracked internally which failed a pressure test and the other was cracked accross 3 water jackets on the face of the block:mad:
So take one cleaned block, been over it with a wire brush on a drill and they gave it a good steam clean then blew it out to dry with an air line.

Looking good mate :)
Is the engine spec going to be pretty much standard??
lol well it's not so far, zlet parts!
Just kidding..But whats main difference, or reason on using the Z20LET parts, like the gasket? just better then normal ones??
Looks very nice though mate.
Scott
engine will be run in pretty standard, my ecu is chipped but no idea on what power it will make looks like it says baileys on it, uprated actuator, making my own turbo downpipe. Once i know its all good and no running problems im going to run it on either evo 5 or phase3.5. Ive been told 3.5 is better for fwd cards
Scott zlet gasket is metal and a better/stronger. zlet oil pump is a better newer design rather the the c20 that is known to fail. It does need a modified pickup pipe though
excellent work rich, have been waiting for an update.
what mod has to be done to the pick up pipe to run the oil pump?

Another update, been a while no major progress. Got my nova back painted, havent actually seen it for 3 weeks since i put it into its temp garage after giving up my unit.
Continued engine building, modified oil pickup. doesnt look pretty but its cheaper than the £140 odd for a pretty new made one and still does the same job.

Thought i had taken more pics but cant find them. For anyone using the 8v sump gasket, the offending tap that needs bending down

got this a while ago, bigger than standard but still has the fittings for the turbo cover
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC02340-1.jpg
Still room for improvement, a big lip around the edge

the engine looks sweet with those covers on. why have you modified the pick up pipe? you using the z20let oil pump?
yep z20let pump, pics a few pages back
i missed that sorry, so whats been modified to to make it fit? i can see the one parts been welded by the looks. is that from the c.let pipe?
gave up my unit a few months ago due to cost and not being able to use if for what i want, last thing i want to do after work is more private work. After that i dont want to spend anytime working on my own car. Those in the trade will know what i mean!
So ive rented a council garage for ym nova to stay untill ive found somwhere else.
My mates nans garage, good size but needs wiring, new bigger door new floor and roof lol
So old tiled roof pulled down, timbers all rotten underneath and collapsing
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00093-1.jpg
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00094-1.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00096-1.jpg?t=1274639218 Changed to a link incase anyones eating dinner lol
Last 4 weeks have been spent on the roof, now all boarded and felted. Concreted the floor yesterday so waiting for that to go off. Hopefully get some paint on the floor this week then get my nova in there to get my build back on track
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00142-1.jpg
Its a very good size, and alot lot cheaper than my old unit :)
The flange that fits onto the c20let pump is different on the zlet, so the new flange has been welded onto the c20let pickup pipe
ah cheers for the info!! looks like you've been hella busy with that garage!

Although the after picture is of my turbo inlet lol its the same idea, lost most of the lip. Just need somthing for smoothing it of inside as its a bit rough still (any ideas what to use?)
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00072-3.jpg
Leave it as is, a rough surface on the inlet side will give a bit of turbulence to the inlet charge & help the fuel atomise better in the chambers.
As has been said already, the colour of this thing is sweet! :thumb:
I'm looking forward to the finished article
^Be waiting a Looong time lol
Been asking a few questions about stuff so must be up to something lol
colour looks sweet buddy

Bit of progress today, first time i have worked on it since it was painted! Actually have a bit more motivation now ive made a start. Few pics,
First off loom in, theres one long brown/white wire over on the passenger side of the loom that i dont know where it goes if anyone can shed any light? Has a spade type connecter on the end
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00257.jpg
Nice painted servo and mc from a calibra turbo bolted in
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00258.jpg
Then time to get the car up in the air, rear beam removed. Antiroller bar removed and put into my new beam.

New beam waiting to go on, with new poly bushes and gaz coilovers :)
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00262.jpg
While the beam was off, got the fuel tank in place
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00261.jpg
Disc beam put on, hubs bolted up and rear coilovers which are touching the inner wings, going to need a bit of a tap for clearance, hopfully wont do too much damage the paint inside :(
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00265.jpg
New discs and new calipers i found on ebay last week, after a bit of paint
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj86/Project_FLO/DSC00269.jpg
Before i left i pulled the front suspension off, need to weld the strengthening plates to the lower arms. Nothing too interesting but its a start lol Going back up next weekend to carry on, get my brake lines and fuel lines run

DONT HIT THE INNER ARCHES!! Chances are they should clear, but until the beams got wight on it they sit in a different position and it looks like theres clearance issues, try using a trolley jack to push it up a bit and see how they look then? If not then caress them with a bit of wood rapped in a cloth and hammer that dude.
Scott
I have the axel stands on the beam so its taking the weight of the car, will have to double check when its on wheels but dont have any tyres at the moment to try it. they only just touch so it wont take much
Nice work rich love the colour and as scott said wrap a peice of wood in a cloth or summat before caressing the arches lol.
my coilovers fouled the inner arches too, i made the mistake of beating them in, only to find out when theres weight on the beam they move outwards. doh..
glad you got some motivation to keep on with what look likes will be a top car. keep it up.

Looks fantastic I love the colour of this! I'm glad you've decided to keep it, as you were thinking of selling up not long ago?
I like what you've done by smoothing the inner wing to the chassis leg and keeping the shape if you know what I mean lol but are you not worried it may crack?
brucer how bad did yours catch? you on the gaz ones? theres a bulge in the arch which is what catches when the beams down. the axel stands are under the beam at the moment and its still touching the inner arch so pretty sure it will touch when cornering.
i am worried yes lol, if it does ill have to sort it but theres not actually that much filler to be fair.
Im also glad ive decided to keep it, i never really wanted to sell it i just wanted to be sensible and put some money into savings/house funds, looks like im staying at home for a while lol
i never tried mine on the ground untill i beat the crap out of the arch. it never affected the paint inside the car aslong as you stay towards the bottom of the inner arch.
yeh im on gaz.

Mine did catch when jacked up. Where close when it was on its own weight. So i beat mine back just to be sure and safe.
cool you have quite a bit of clearance there, big hammer? lol
i wouldnt like to brag how big my hammer is. lol
I used a 5lb ball pain hammer. Nova metal isnt that thick remember.
mine was a euphemism, but the hammer i used was standard size thing with a ball pein one side.

Had this week off for my motorbike training, but it has been messed up seeing as training place didnt bother booking my test for my direct access course so now got 2 days off this week with nothing to do! So dragged my mate up to the garage to give me a hand. Never taken so much care putting an engine in lol. Good to report not a single scratch :)

Gearbox bolted up, engine and box lifted back up together
