Am I right in thinking a 2 channel amp is simply for two speakers, left and right? In which case a 4 channel amp is for 4 speakers? Two left and two right?

So does that in turn mean 3 channel would be for either side and then a sub?

I'm split between fitting the two 6x9s I already have with a pair of 7x10s and a 4 channel amp to power them. Or the current 6x9s with a sub and 3 channel amp to power them?

:confused::confused:

Yup, each channel powers one speaker. A 3 or 5 channel amp will usually host a set of speakers and one sub.

Most multi channel amps can be bridged, where two (or more) channels are combined to power one speaker. For example, a 4 channel amp could have two channels bridged so it becomes a 3 channel amp (i.e. 2 speakers and one sub). What is the 4ch amp you have at the mo?

I currently don't have one. But I am looking to put a bit more sound in the back, nothing silly mind, so I'll need some idea of what i'm looking for.
