hi there i was just about to change my engine size on my loog book as it is a 1.4 8v at the moment and i am just about to put a 1.6 8v gsi lump into it how hard will it be to get insured as once the car is "modified" most insurance companys wont touch it, but i can understand it because they will insure me on a nova gsi bit not a converted nova and it says 1.6 on the log book so why does it come up 1.4 on the insurace companys data (if possibale is there any way to get it changed to a 1.6) cheers for you help. ryan

Bit confused about that, have you changed the logbook or not yet?

You need to update your V5c to reflect the new engine number and capacity, then post this to DVLA (look on directgov to find the correct address).

DVLA will then update their records (may take a while!), and the insurance companies should pick up the fact its a 1.6 from them. However, you MUST declare its had a conversion even if the insurance company see its listed as a 1.6.

You will need to go via a specialist insurance broker - try Adrian Flux/HIC and Sky for engine conversions. I think Performance Direct also cover conversions as well.

how comes you have to say its had an engine conversion if it comes up on the insurance companys data base as a 1.6? cheers again

Because its still a modification - anything that has been changed since the car left the factory (aside from like-for-like parts and consumables) is considered a mod :)
