i want to upgrade my carb t osomething new from the pants pierburg.
i understand that twin 40s are beston 1.4- 1.6. i have a 1.2.
will weber32/34s go on and what is the difference between that and a set of win 40s? r they a good mod?-

Both will go on your car, although you will need a 1.3 manifold.

40's: Effectively four carbs (one per cylinder that work simultaneously)

32/34: One carb with two buterflies, one opening after the other to gain more airflow/power at full throttle.

40's for outright power

32/34 for a good improvement over standard.

mc he's meant to get the 1.4 manifold ;) i got the 1.3 manifold on my 1.4 which remember is wrong ;)

It all depends on what shape ports the 1.2 head has. The 1400 manifold has square ports where as the 1300 manifold has oval ports. Check to see what shape ports the 1.2 head has and match as per above.

The old 1.2 head is pretty much identicle to the 1.3 SR head with Cathedral shaped ports. A 1.3 manifold will fit. The 1.2i possibly has small square ports in which case it will require a 1.4SR manifold. I know the first statement is correct, the second is a hunch.
