View Full Version : bad vibrations
I wired my sub & amp up over the weekend & the nova rattles like fook! Its mainly the boot lid i think, whats the best way to stop it? Is the stuff like dynamat any good or is it best to go for dynamat? I just dont want to be spending more money where i dont need to. In what areas will soundproofing make the most difference in a nova? thanks

imo you will probaly find mate its not your bootlid that vibrating it probaly your number plate vibrating against the bootlid, if so get some double size stick foam and stick the plate on, that should stop it !!!

just another thing to try before you start spending money on dyna matt, open your botlid and on the inside either sides of the boot lid there will 2 rubber bump stops twist them so they stick out further, you boot maybe a little harder to close but it will probaly stop it moving so much, but if all else fails i would go with expanding foam, it dosnet look nice but it will stop any rattles you have lol
most likely be your shelf mate, if its in an enclosed box like mine it shouldnt matter, but if its an exposed one itll most probabley be your shelf buddy :thumb:
deffo not my shelf mate i took it out for a bit to see if it was that!

if you've done the number plate fix, checked your wiper motor and adjusted the rubber pads on the boot lid then its gonna have to be the plastic panels that cover the inside of the arches.
I took mine off got a thin layer of foam spray glued them on so that they wont rattle agains the metal bits of the inner wing.
Thats done the trick.

i found that the jack in the spare wheel well was the cause of most of the rattles. and check for any bits and bobs in there aswell

i had a striped interior with a 12" sub in the spare wheel well all boxed in and sound deadened but it still vibrated!! I found most vibrations came from number plate and the metal in the bumper, yet there was still vibrations and rattles cumming from some were around the petrol filler and in the inner arches so out came a tad of expanding foam (baxter was my insperation for this :) ) and job done didnt rattle much and sounded pretty sweet. And as sr jack said check there isnt crap in the spare wheel well as in my corsa they was a pair of scissors in there and it sounded terrible lol

Its probably everything thats been mentioned. Navas rattle like fook, end of!
Dyna mat works very well though. My old B reg had a 12" sub & 6x9's.
It used to distort & vibe badly at about volume 30 on the HU. I dynamatted the rear quarters (under the windows) & inside the tailgate. After the dynamat treatment, straight away I could take the HU up to volume 36.
Instantly more stereo power for a ?30 roll.

yer dont 'fill' your car with expanding foam lol and i used dynamat to, very good stuff try and buy the bulk packs tho as i bought **** loadsa rolls and it would have worked out much cheaper the other way.

mine boot well is fully coated in bown bread sound deadening (half the price of dynamatt. The rear quaters are full of expanding foam and under the number palte is bit of exhaust rumber held in place with brown bread, inside the tail gate all wires are held in place with brown bread and expanding foam where can?t get too with brown bread.
Took 9 rolls and four can?s of foam but now rattle free, silent & about 35kg?s min heavier!
P:S Hope I never need to re-wire ahhhhhhh!
