If its just a standard XE then i can't see you having probs with any Head Gasket tbh, local motor factors parts would be fine.

Standard GM is a Elring gasket iirc

Do NOT use metal head gaskets unless you have had the block decked, some people get away with it but a standard one will be more than upto the job.

Is that a real issue then Jon? As I was going to put a steel on to my LET. Have done in the past with a mates LET after just having the head skimmed, but he wrote it off within a week, so I don't get to see how long it would have lasted. Any recomendations for Ph2?

For standard XE, i'd use a 25quid headset off ebay. Have worked fine for me many times..

with a metal HG you need to have the head face and block face PERFECTLY smooth/flat otehrwise the gasket wont seal properly/will blow rather rapidly.

I agree. One that fits would be my recommendation. ;)

For Ph2 you shouldnt really have any issues with standard items, but with the work youve put into your preject austin, spent an extra ?70ish on top of a standard one and get a cometic item IMO. :thumb:

I'd only go for a cometic IF you can garuntee the surface on the block and head are perfect....

i assumed austin would be doing this too, its a sort of no corner cut rebuild. lol

agreed, but yer average less than well knowledged XE owner might read this and think "ohh I'll bung a cometic on my engine as it will be better" only to find it hose coolant everywhere as they didnt prep the block etc lol

Austin, stock gasket is proven to be fine at those power levels.. and more.

Unless the block has been decked don't use a MLS gasket

Seeing as I've got a low milage engine going in the saloon, I'm not going for a full re-build, so will leave the decent gasket for the propper rebuild if/when its needed at a later date, so will probably go with the standard one for now...

Good advice :thumb:

any gasket is normally perfectly fine as long as the mating faces are flat and the engine does not suffer from detonation.
