CamS or Cam?

8v or 16v?

Is it ticking more than it did before? If so (and it doesnt quieten down - as the lifters may have drained of oil) you may find that the cam is 'slapping' the lifters... as they are a bit worn.... more likely to be the former though

:)

did you not get instructions with the cam?

you have to run the cam in as per the instructions (look on the cam suppliers website)

the cam came from PNG Member srt40 he fitted it for me using his cam box and fitting straight onto my head then reasemble everything which was a nightmare as some plank had sealered the waterpump solid so struggled to refit cambelt,

all sorted but just worried about this tick, how long usually till they settle down?

About 2minutes in most cases ive found.
Even on new lifters that is.

If you've just fitted the cam, using your old lifters etc, it should quieten down pretty much straight away.

Go for a drive and see what its like then.
Maybe the rocker arms are worn if you used the ones from your old cam....

Take it for a long drive and see if it quietens down

So you swapped the cam carrier? did you fit a new head gasket?

Also, if you removed the exhaust manifold when you took the head off(assuming you did)
Check its gasket, as a blowing exhaust manifold gasket makes like a cam ticking noise.

replaced all gasgets and its defo the cams ticking its alot quieter today going to leave it be and hope it quietens,

Will this damage anything running the car?

it should just quieten down as it gets more lubricated, go for a drive if it hasnt queitend down the folowers may need replacing, as they might not be strong enough for the high lift cam

When i did a top end rebuild on my SRi it was tappety for ages... then one morning it just stopped and ran quiet as a mouse.

I have heard an engine flush can help, incase theres a blockage on one of the oil ways.
