View Full Version : adam c's smallblock wip
right then its about time i started a wip.i bought the car from stevie78 off here back in august heres how it looks(pic from the original for sale ad)the only thing i have changed is the exhaust for a magnex one as the old one used to set off car alarms!lol http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/leahsummer070031.jpg
also went and did a trackday at elvington and absolutly loved it:D especially the responce from people with more expensive dedicated machinery when they had to move over:cool: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/DSC_9709.jpg
so the plan was hatched i wanted a standardish looking nova but for it to have some tasty goodies i.e engine suspension etc(to show more people uplol )but it will also still be staying as my daily driver
so the bug hit me!first of all i bought these strengthend and polybushed's tie bars and bottom arms off t45_ste from here and put some new bottom ball joints on
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/88.jpg
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/GetAttachment1.jpg
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/GetAttachment2.jpg
i also bought a byldenstein b+ head off him but that has now been sold:D
then with winter arriving and the dark nights coming in i found out what nova headlights are really like!lol absolute garbage.so i did a bit of research and bought these
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30867.jpg
also bought a pair of brand new headlights as my old ones wouldnt adjust:mad:
then i decided about what engine spec i was going to have.
originally i was going to keep the original inlet and go dta management but then this engine came along and with the history it has i just had to have it
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30861.jpg
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30862.jpg
then got these as a christmas present from my mum:D
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30893.jpg
and then this package arrived the other day
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30882.jpg
yep my quick rack internals(just awaiting a steering rack so i can swap the internals and get it fitted)
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30883.jpg
also bought this the other day for my new engine
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV30885.jpg
i will try get some more upto date pics of the car and try get some more pics while im fitting the parts(once i start the job i just want to get it finished and always forget to take pics!)
p.s at the min i know its just pics of parts but its slowly coming together
also treated her to a set of 4 toyo proxe's but then i did the trackday and killed the front 2 so had to buy another 2!
Looks nice and tidy! What engine's in it now?
Lovely looking car mate, good plans too!!Keep us updated!!

Good plans mate - Good to see one of my personal favourites still living on :)
Very nice car indeed.
The wheels look cool, dont see many sets of those on a nova.
Good engine choice, with how well it went in Dan's nova, hopefully you'll get many years use out of it too :)
looks great mate,
try to keep body standard,
standard GSI's, you can't go wrong!

Good to hear Dan's engine lives on :)
Its a nice sound aint it
Just keep the fuel gauge in mind when your addicted to the noise ;) lol
Fantastic news, glad you have finally got it in :thumb: The noise is pure porn lol although the carbs when fully opened up have always made a slightly different roar to the 'norm' and sounded more menacing which has amused many of us :D
yeah just got back in as i carn't stop driving it!lol.yeah the carbs on full chat sound awesome!who needs a stereo when you have carbs(i carnt even hear the stereo when i open it up!lol)

Enjoy - that engine is absolute gold:thumb: :thumb:
well......it was MOT time today:roll: .it failed on a few stuff i knew about mainly the front suspension and rear brakes.so at least its an excuse to buy some GAZ coilovers:D .thought all was fine and dandy until i checked the old MOT certificate when i got home and it said it expires 9th of may:cry: i thought it was the 19th or 23rd for some reason:mad: .

How did the fr suspension fail? Leaking fluid?
How did the fr suspension fail? Leaking fluid?
it has some lowered springs on it from when i got it and i think they are standard shockers so when you jack the front end of the car up the springs can move up and down and it failed on that.
hehe my mum drove for weeks when her MOT ran out, easy to forget.

thanks!i knew i wanted to stay smallblock but my original plan was 1.6 16v on throttle bodies but this engine came along so i snapped it up:D
yeah im getting adjustable tie-bars for it and hopefully an atb diff for the time being and in a while i might turn to interior and get a flocked dash, suede wheel, rollcage and buckets but still undecided whether i want that look yet(i like the subtle sleeper look;) )

Get a wider strip for the bumpers and a boot vinyl and it will look really nice then.
vaughan:thanks.yeah she'll be at pvs on the png stand
ash:lolthanks .my neighbour had a puzzled look on his face when he looked under the bonnet and saw it said injection on the rocker cover and the carbs bolted on!he thought it had bothlol :tard: .i have thought about changing the rocker cover and i like them irmscher ones but no way can i justify spending that amount of money on a rocker cover!lol
stevie78:i hit the house wall at homelol .i was just pulling up the drive and went a bit to far forwqard and just tapped the front:roll:
novalad:im not wanting it to be an exact gsi replica and tbh i think it looks better without the rear vinyl.i will probably leave it as it is styling wise and concentrate on the handling side of things:D
bit of an update:
while bored at work having some cherry coke i began looking round for something to do and i had a little brain wave!lol.i thought whilst i have nothing to do i'll make a oil catch tank.....pikey motorsport style:cool:
so take:
1 length of garden water hose
1 small length of old washer fluid hose
2 tie straps
and the all important cherry coke bottle:D

looking good mate, those shocks are proper job. Did you get a deal on them in the end?
I've also gone for the pikey style oil catch tank ATM in the form of a gearbox oil bottle lol
Re: rocker cover - I've got the smooth 1.6 style one, took some finding mind. Funnily I was going to put and irmscher decal one mine to go with my '1600 sport' idea.
t45 ste:thanks!i may have to take you up on that offer;)
ash:no not in the end but i was messed about when ordering them as i needed them asap so i got them from the place who promised me they would be with me within 2 weeks but 4 week later i have just recieved them! also when i rang them they said they sent them out last thursday but when i looked on the invoice i got with them they were sent out tuesday just gone:mad:

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31408.jpg
it seems to be slowly getting there:)
some nice purchases
the other day i got my frost flocking kit through and spare dash binnacle, heater /clock front and light switch so today i set about flocking them:D
first of all i cleaned all of the parts with a damp cloth to get rid of any grease/solvents etc and dried the all with a towel.
then once they had been dried i used the glue that comes with the kit and smothered the plastics with it.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31421.jpg
then using the applicator that comes with the kit i started applying the flock.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31423.jpg
and my freshly flocked bits:D
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31429.jpg
im very happy with the outcome of the bits tbh.i've got to wait 24 hours for the glue to finish to dry and to sweep off the excess flock and then i can fit them.i shall post some pics up tommorow when they are fitted.
p.s they're my gf's hands in the pic not minelol

depends if you like petrol stops!lol .they sound absolutly awesome:cool: on full chat and give good gains if combined with other mods but they guzzle fuel!they arent THAT bad if you take it really steady but with the noise they produce its hard not to put your toe down every now and then!:D
the other day i recieved my new rear lights and today i had a bit of spare time so decided to fit them.

after:

im still undecided at the minute though:confused:
and all was fine until i tested them out because where the indicator is its a red lense so shines red:mad: !does anyone know if you can change the wiring?so that the indicators are at the top?
also gave the insides of the doors and boot a coating of waxoyl to try slow down the rusting process!the joys of owning an old carlol

they got a good coverage but the picture doesnt really show it up that well.
I'd imagine you can swap the wiring around on the bulb holder to fix that issue. You also have the problem of having no red reflectors though. Get the multimeter out and see what's what.

the first run(bearing in mind it was my first go at the quarter mile and first time i have really launched the car)i got a 15.6 but then on my second and third runs everytime i went to set off from the line it was jumping out of gear so i decided to call it a day and head home before i broke somethinglol(think i should just keep to trackdayslol )
im pretty confident i can get into the high 14's though with a little bit of practise:D
i've also got the quaiffe diff to go in aswell which should help:D

Adam mate I was down at the scrapyard today in Irvine, Scotland
Seen a guy with a VxSCC t-shirt and hat on and we got speaking about Nova's - He said he bought K151 RHS out of a dealership a good few years back and I think he said he was the one who stuck the XE in it the 1st time round :)
Wee bit of background for you mate, he was happy to hear its still living and more delighted about the engine choice you made!

luking goooooooooooooood !!!
well after having no heater for a few months i decided to get my ass in gear and get it sorted especially with winter coming up(and i was sick of putting a big wolly jumper on everytime i went out in itlol ).it was the heater matrix that was bust as when i had old engine in the headgasket had gone and must of blown it so i bypassed the heater matrix and left it like that:D
fast forward a few month and i got a new heater matrix and set about fitting it!
first of all i took out both of the dash undertrays
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31613.jpg
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31615.jpg
then i could access the hater matrix bit.i undid the 4 7mm headed bolts
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31614.jpg
i pulled the plastic cover down and then out exposing the heater matrix
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31616.jpg
and with a little leverage pulled it out
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31617.jpg
and put the new one in:D
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/adam_c_2007/SNV31618.jpg
and put it all back together and put the pipes back in and hey presto its nice and warm(well for a nova:D )
Matrix easy to change? I heard they were a pig on mk2s? I did my old one on my mk1 and it weren't too bad.
