View Full Version : fitting bike CARBS *not bike throttle bodies* to an xe
been thinking about putting a set of bike carbs on my 2.0 xe, obv i know i need custom inlet, throttle linkage etc, but im unsure on what i need to do the run them. my engine has the late loom so there is no dizzy, is it possible without converting it to distibutor? any other advice appreciated
No, you have to convert to mappable ignition management.
Or fit an old carb dizzy
To run a dizzy you'll have to swap exhaust cams too.
yeh i had to convert it from dizzy loom to late loom recently so i know about the cam change lol, so if i change the cam back, use say and early big block carbed engine dizzy and lose all the loom and ecu etc i can run its as if its and old school carbed engine?
sweet, any certain dizzy recommended?
You need an old 1980s 1.6/1.8 carb big block engine dizzy/ignition coil/module.
ok cheers mate, any idea of power gains?
Probably same as Webers.
Down to who sets the carbs/dizzy up.
170bhp ish....
Cant see it being more, as basic throttle body kits "only" give about 180ish..
theres tonnes of info on this on migweb, loads of people over there have done the conversion.
Or have at look at: http://www.totalvauxhall.co.uk/resources/totalvauxhall/TOV64.tech60697.pdf
ahh sweet cheers steve, 170 ish is good enough for me, if i do it i'll be taking it bog bros to be set up (heard good things about them), hopefully if all goes to plan they will be accompanied by a few other bits ;) thanks for your help lads
Bogg bros are supposed to be good, but there's also supposed to be a huge waiting list as everyone has taken to bike carbs.
Post some pics up when you get it dont though, its something i'd want to do with the 8v one day.
will do if i ever get round to doing it, just like to get my info early so theres no flapping when it comes down to it lol, got to replace suspension, bushes and tyres first!
