what sort of charges do people face for dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention?

these days you probably get a free house and benefits, while anyone you hit has to mop their own blood off the road to avoid jail

Depends on the seriousness, anything from a fine, to points, and worst case a disqualification. Extreme case would be jail (but someone must have been seriously hurt) A ban is more likely if your in your first two years of driving.

I got banned for 12 months with DD40 offence, I'd had my licence for a year.

Not good.

EDIT - then you've got the re-take your theory and take an extended test (mine was 1hr 20mins)

i have no idea why people would want to disclose such informations publicly.
it is not clever to own up or to commit such offences.

im not saying there is anything wrong with asking the question. i just dont understand why people would want to admit to it.

there is no need to commit an offence in order to learn from it. if they didnt teach or expect you to do something dangerous in you test or driving lessons, what makes people think it is ok to do it on the roads afterwards?

I don't/didn't think it was clever and tbh I don't mind disclosing such information. I could only hope it will serve as a warning as to what could happen.

That 12 months was a bloody struggle, you really appreciate how important being able to drive is. Not by any means was I proud of it, I was young and hot headed, I would say that taught me a lesson to stop being such a c0ck.

Mr Bev. iam glad you have seen the error of your ways. that is a very mature thing you have done. you hae sacraficed your privacy to detere young drivers from the perils of driving like a foolish man.

my friend got in trouble for the same, and got banned for a year and now his insurance is stupidally high as the offence lasts 11yrs i think instead of 4-5yrs

if you do get charged with it you can get your employer to write you a letter stating that your going to lose your job and your carrer wich will then result in you having to go on benifits this goes in your favour as theres that many bums on itit worked for me lol but i did learn my lesson

Good advice there.

The problem being with people posting for advice on forums is that you rarely get the full story. Users replying (myself included) aren't (normally) solictors or the like so can only give advice on events that have happened to them

I faced a driving without due care and attention charge within my first two years of driving. I got charged with 5 points. The reason behind being that if i did anything else wrong in the remainder of 2 years i would be off the road, simple.

Represent yourself but speak to the duty solictor, they are normally very very good and will want to help you.

Write out a speech about what happened, why it happened and then justify to the court why you should still be aloud to drive, how you have learnt about what happened etc.

Mr.Lovers right,
You shouldnt have to calm down, you should be calm when you start. you only get one license.

do they give you points? or is it a seperate thing like you get driving without due care and attention and a fine?

I got done for due care and attention after a cyclist wiped himself out on my van in London resulting in 6 points, a ?350 fine and ?70 costs. I'm fairly confident in saying that I would have been banned if I didn't drive for a living but they also went heavy on me for the same reason.

I believe due care and attention carries 3 to 9 points and a maximum fine of ?2,500.
