Me, Lee and Chris made the annual trek to Dans gaff to see the Wyedean again this year. Dar was also in attendance as 1 of the many invaluable marshalls who make these events possible. Cheers mate:thumb: :thumb:

Conditions were excellent - bit of a chilly start but soon warmed up and we got on stage just right to see some top action from a completely different part of the course than we've been to before.

Most of the usual suspects were there with a smattering of novas battling it out in the 1400 class. They were flying.:D

In the big boys class Burton in his hybrid pug/decepticon transformer or whatever was looking excellent and sounding absolutely awesome - sort of Lancia Stratos-esque for those whoever have witnessed them at first handlol
Hyundai had a strong showing and much of the field was made up of various spec'd scoobies and evo's as to be expected. There were a few escorts, some minis and even someone in a Lotus Elise WTF!

We had to leave a bit early cos I had to get off but all in all it was an excellent day. Cheers Dan

Andy Burton finished with a good win some 40 secs ahead of 2nd placed Nik Elsmore in a Mitsi Evo9.
The highest placed Nova was driven by Gary Scott finishing 5th in class and 62nd overall in a field of 102.

As charles has said it was a very good day from a spectating point of view :D :D , although how rude you have got me on almost every vid :tard:. The first stage we stood on as mentioned we took a different route to normal to find our spot, only slight down side was the best spot which we had meant that each time anything shot by we got showered in stones, some of which tingled abit lol. The second stage we wandered to as seen in the vids gave us a safer haven right above where the cars shot through between 2 high banks. The steepness was displayed by charles showing us the quickest way down in an uncontrolled fashion which was hilarious regardless of discomfort to himself lololol

Twas good to see the usual rabble down with mucho banter, abuse and general picking on people in our normal fashion lol lol I did take loads of pictures but for once they are nearly all crap which is damn annoying and very rare, i might be able to salvage a couple and will get them up when i get a chance.

Martin, to see the vids an pics compared to waiting for it to woosh past is nothing. You get the odd car you can hear coming a bend before where you are stood, then you here burtons car miles before it reaches you and you play the guessing game of how long he is going to take lol. As i say every year a fantastic bit of kit that makes the day almost worth while on its own :thumb:

It was a great day. The Mk1&2 Escorts are the best sounding cars IMO. With the exception of the 306 which is just farking awesome!

It was the first time I have driven when marshalling so I got the pleasure of driving the Monty all through the stage, all 10 miles of it :D

I managed about 80mph on occasion and I also got a little bit of driftage on the go. Not alot though because I didn't want to stack the thing.

even someone in a Lotus Elise WTF!

I remember reading the build of that recently, seemed like it could be very competitive.

I was up in the forest, even paid to go into chepstow racecourse, was boiling, could of got a tan, got 8 mins of footage to upload but havent got round to it.

Julian Wilkes in his Nova was a bit of a shocker going out in first stage.

Plenty of rear wheel action from the mk2 escorts which imo sound better than pretty much any of the cars that were there!

And as for Burton as always his car is amazing, if you said to someone that there was a F1 car up in the forest, the sheer noise of the thing would probably have them believing you, shame they are banning his car, he is like 70% through building a new car that was going to be better than pug cosworth but he stopped building it :( wanted to know what it was. CAr before the pug was a alfa ferrari!

oh and also it was a great day, brilliant smooth day of rallying apart from last stage got held up about 35mins as someone on stage before in a evo had bit of a crash which had to be attended to!

The Elise didn't make it through SS5. We caught it up whilst it was being towed out of stage. I also thought WTF when I seen it on the entry list.

Anyone going to the Sunseeker? I can't make that one :( Thats also a great rally! Feb 22nd/23rd in Bournemouth.

I was just happy not to have my feet 3 inches deep in snow and solid like a block of ice lol. Was definatley two of the best spots we've ever been in. Charles got the customary clod of sh1te on his coat anyway, so they must have been belters lol

Here are all I took. I broke down the day before so only made it out for a few hours in the afternoon sessions.

To be honest I liked it more last year in the snow. Its rare to witness a snow rally in the forest so I enjoyed it plus I only lived 1 mile away from some stages so popping home to get warm is easy.

Burton only won because Elsmore had a puncture in the last stage.

I've also heard that Burton stopped his new car because the rules changed and he wouldn't be able to run it. I've also heard he might not be able to run the 306 next season.

Excellent pictures:thumb:

Dont know any of the politics but from a spectator point of view seeing a car like Burtons Pug at full chat really has that wow factor - be a pity if he was stopped.

Burton only won because Elsmore had a puncture in the last stage.

You really think thats the only reason why burton won? Dont get me wrong Elsmore a complete nutter, we were stood on first stage about 2 miles away from finish line and his bumper was hanging off already, he was trying bloody hard. But when i was stood in speechouse, was after longstraight coming to a bout a 90 right, burton braking point was so much further on then anyone else

As for burton, his car will be banned next year which is a joke, a farmer beating the millions and millions spent on wrc spec scoobs and evos etc, shame really, thought whole point in life is to experiment, try to do better. I would love to know what the car he was building is
