just changed the alternator on my nova td normally when this is done the battery light goes out and the rev counter starts working but this time its not happened. any suggestions as to why?

you havent connected it properly, your belt is too loose, or the alternator is scared/broken still, there is a blown fuse, an earth fault.

Re check any Earths incl the gearbox to chassis earth strap.
