After taking the front wings of my car, the inner wings don't look too bad, however the splash guard on the drivers side has done a runner (can't be down to rust of course :p )
I'm guessing a piece of metal can be fabrictaed and welded on in its place??

Also what do people use on the wheel arch once they've removed the underseal?? Oh and aside from a lot of elbow grease best tips for removing the underseal?? I was going to use a screw driver or similar sharp object to rip it off.

a wire wheel?!? and nitromorse?!? i'd use red oxide primer and then reunderseal it, or waxoyl it :)

Yeah, the splash guard is literally a sheet of steel hanging off the edge of the front chassis legs etc, easy to weld a new one back in.

Looking around a few areas on my GSi from when it was stitch welded & plated back in 2002. The red oxide brush on primer followed by UPOL seam sealer seems to have lasted really well. Thats the way I will deffo be doing things in future.

Can even get replacement splash guards from vauxhall (probably NLS now, maybe worth a check?), getting a bit rare now though and probably just as well welding a bit of sheet on.

For the cost, it might aswell be mocked up ones IMO. Its merely a sheet of plate steel to keep the indicator wires dry.

fire is pretty good at removing the underseal :D

I'd just shape a piece of perspex to suit and then bond it in place/ no rusting there.

Um no thanks Stuart knowing me as I do I will end up burning out the entire car

Perspex is not a bad idea at all :thumb:

I have been advised to not use red oxide primer and use etch primer instead. Pros and cons please??

Heres what I did (and am planning)

before

got a local garage to weld new ones in place

The red is red oxide paint. The plan then is to give them a good goat of zinc primer (or hamerite) then a thick laper of shutz underseal. I'll do the whole underside.

I then plan to get a coupld of old corsa B plastic inner arch linings and cut them to fit. theres plenty of space between the wing and the new parts I've had welded in...

3/4mm thick mudgaurd material or cold-store curtains rivetted into place are a good work-around.

Schultz underseal is minging stuff. Only use if necessary IMO.

You'll totally regret ever having to scrape & clean it off.
