i was looking at an install guide for the digital dash and it says to remove the speedo cable and screw the astra sender in its place

i had a look at me gearbox today with under the bonnet and i noticed the speedo cable was screwed into a sender already and this sender was attached to the g.box (it had 2 wires comin out of it IIRC)

so do i remove the lot and put the astra sender in instead?

if so what does the original sender do and what do i do with it?

thanks

that big silver box is your ecu
the wires going to it from yer sender are a live and a earth
fit the whole new astra sender and wire your live and earth to them the red/blue wire on the sender goes up to your dash ive just fitted a digidash to my missus nova at w/end and it works a treat ...... if your not sure post me your email ........or else you will blow your ecu then your fucked cheers allister

why would a carb engine need an ECU?

i thaught they were only needed for injections?

is there any identifying marks between the 1.2 and 1.2i so i can tell which it is?

thanks

well ive got 2 nova's here

both are carbs as far as i know

the 1.4 (mk1) and the 1.2 (mk2) both have a silver box about 6"x6"x2" behind the passenger glove box

the 1.4 is defineltly a carb and on takin the air filter off the 1.2 i see a dome with a silver flap in the middle, just what i'd expect a carb to look like

on the 1.2, the gearbox has a small thing screwed into it with 2 wires comin out and the speedo cable attached to this - which is what the 1.2i should have
not checked the 1.4 gearbox yet tho

so whats the deal? carb or not?

oook, methinks ive got this all wrong

ive looked at both engines

both have the gearbox sender and at closer inspection both have a probe at the bottom of the exhaust manifold

so im thinking they are both 1.2i's

that means ive been been paying the insurance on a 1400 for a year and its not even a f00kin 1400

anyone got a picture of the injectors or what underneath the airbox should look like on a 1.2i?

thanks

the reason for the ECU in the 1.2 carb engine is to do with spark control

Aragorn

nope its a proper ECU

both engines are fuckin SPi

mate when i get your cheque for the digidash, i said i would put a guide in the parcel when i post it up to you. It deals with both carb and single point injection models. It's all in there. Piece of piss to follow. k?

yea sure
i'll post it tomorrow (saturday) u should get it monday

i wasnt driving without insurance

the car and v5 were both 1400
and it was insured as a 1400

i didnt know that there was a 1.4SPi so when i saw the injector i assumed that it was a 1.2SPi

on closer inspection the head has "14" stamped on it whereas my 1.2's head has "12" stamped on it :)

Now i was talkin to stu on IRC and he said the best way to get more power would be to put the 1400 in my car, swap the head for an OLD 1200 head and then fit twin 40's, since this is quite a major mod the insurance would prolly go up quite a bit being 17 and all so i was wondering

would a head, inlet manifold and carb from a 1.3SR fit?

that way the engine would be almost the same as a 1.4 carb so for insurance purposes i could just tell em i installed a 1.4 carb

if you get insured with Liverpool Victoria, you can tell them the car has engine/carb modifications. They dont ask what, and i found out that eninge/carb mods didn't even raise the premium. Phat

the way i look at it

if i use the parts from the 1.3 SR then ive basically built a 1.4carb with the better rounded head from the 1.3 meaning more power

soo i can tell em its a 1.4 carb and prolly get 80-85bhp from it

act dumb about the head cos they aint ever gonna look under the bonnet for a modified head

summat like a set of webbers is easy to spot, the head aint :)
