Hi, i have a gte 1.6 8v, and was just curious as to where can find out what gearbox i have, where there is a manufacturers stamp or anything.

Looking to put lsd into the box but the bloke i bought car from said it was a close ratio box so im not sure if its a standard gte box or what not.:thumb:

Stoo will be along to say his bit, but I'll answer anyway.

Looking from above, under the gear linkage it will have an F number cast into the casing, being a GTE it should be an F13. This tells you nothing more than the maximum torque the 'box is designed to take (130nm).

To find out what's actually in the 'box you need to look at the end of it, from the left front wheel arch (easier with the wheel off and that corner in the air).

It might need cleaning up with some degreaser for you to be able to see the stamping marks, which will be in the circled area of this pic,

That pic shows W4.18 at the end, W=wide ratio, 4.18 is the final drive ratio (4.18:1).
A standard GTE 'box should say C3.74, C=Close ratio, 3.74 being the final drive ratio (3.74:1).

With reference to the LSD, you'll want one for an F13, whilst changing it it might be worthwhile changing the final drive ratio too.
