I will have to investigate further but my brother is an M.O.T tester and has told me that every vehicle built after august 1992 has to come with a catalytic converter, and the nova was registered in 1993! could be wrong mind.
Not at all mate, ?900.

did not affect diesels till 1998/1999 i think
to find out if your diesel has a cat, just let it tick over and sniff the pipe, if it stinks of eggs it has a cat lol

Sorry for all the questions but have you considered an intercooler?
Jordan-Nova-TD
04-02-08, 04:23 PM
Hello Mate, Not sure exactly what boost pressure i'm gonna run. Will get a boost gauge in to start with and see what its running at the moment. Wont go too mental with boost. Just enough to give a bit more power with out running the risk of blowing it up. Im Gonna leave that side of things to my brother tho; I trust his judgement.
As for Intercooler that has aslo been left in my brothers hands. But yes it will get a cooler. My bro has a cosworth 4x4 lying which he is speaking about fitting. Will need to wait till the car is stripped to see what room we have available.
Cheers

I think the nova runs about 0.6 of a bar as standard (could be wrong) i'm running 1.2 bar on my 1.7td and i've done 4k on that pressure but i have got custome pipework and cooler. Makes loads of difference.

i have a 306 dturbo as a daily driver and i cant run anymore than 1.25bar as its fitted with a plastic intercooler...
i rolling roaded it at work not long ago and set it up and it was running 109bhp at 12psi... i ran more boost and it went down... its gettign the fueling right. its stupid on the pug i have a lucas pump and u have to drain it and slide an allen key inside to advance the pump.
i'd love a td nova, but i think those days are gone... :(

Ye it was a trek and a half! 15 hour drive. :wtf:
Think I will be rippin' her out sometime this week, taking off un-needed bits and so on, gettin ready for body work and the likes. will post up more pictures once im at that stage.

04-02-08, 09:43 PM
mine was 105bhp at 0.8 bar and standard fuel i haven't had it done since i modified the boost and fuel...the bosch pump is much easier!

04-02-08, 09:52 PM
my 306 has a ss power flow straight through exhaust and pipercross induction kit. had a bailey's dump valve fitted its still there but removed all the wiring for it. i have the lucas pump and kkk turbo, ideally need to get it to the derv doctor for a tune...

04-02-08, 10:02 PM
Mine is a 1.7td from a cav in a corsa b van it has custom pipework and manifold iveco daily intercooler, filter to turbo and a ss exhaust. I'm sure this would go very well in a nova but here is an idea for you:

i saw that... nice set up! i was lookign to run a front mount instead of the top mount! the hard part is tryign to source the adapeter for the inlet to a pipe fitting!?!
may i ask how much all that set you back? a lack of space on my pug is a downside!

would you be interested in a n/a inlet manifold that has been converted for a TD. or maybe a evo 6 intercooler??

Hey Folks, Im Mattie and this is my little bro's first car. I've been really busy over the past few weeks.
Pictures will follow soon but this is what ive got done so far.
Fully stripped the car : interior, wings, doors, full interior, Engine out etc. Basicly its a rolling shell. only thing still in the car is the loom. which has been remove from the engine bay and sitting inside the car.
With the engine out Im gonna give it a good check over, Slight leak at sump and suspect clutch(still original) gonna get the fuel pump stripped and screwed up.
On stripping the car we found a few bits needing sorted, Both splash guards inside the front wings were a bit tatty, I've cut them out and made my own splash guards.
We also found the bottom of the front wings a bit rotton. 2x new wings ready to fit. (With NO arial hole on O/S) Arial being relocated to the roof (bee sting)
The doors on first inspection seemed good but after a session with the screw driver found the O/S door holed.
The passenger door seems to of had a repair at some point in the cars life.
We managed to track down MINT doors from a GTE which are ready to fit and check gaps etc. There is NO rust on the doors. couldnt get much better if we bought Brand new doors.
At the O/S rear wheel arch found a very small hole, Half the size of a 5p Piece with we repaired.
We decided to remove the rear wiper assembly from the boot which we have welded up.
A Mk2 Roof spoiler has also been fitted.
Up front we have welded the top of the of the front cross member where the tie bar mounts. for strength
We have also seam welded the front chassis legs and plated over from corner to corner to remove the step on the leg.
I've also remove most of the factory seam sealer which im going to re apply before the car goes to paint in a few weeks time
I'd decided to do the strengthening due to a few bad experiences with my old Xe Nova Spin.
We have also bought a Brand New GSI front bumper direct from vauxhall aswell as a rear bumper
We have also managed to get the Grey rear quarter window trims aswell as the front door window trims.
We are also fitting Astra GSI bonnet vents.
The car is getting a full respray in glacier white, everything other than the interior, Colour coding the bumpers but leaving the door handles, fuel cap and tail gate handle plastic.
We are also putting a black stripe in the front and rear bumper to break up the white.
We also managed to remove the gutter trims which will go back on. Rather than fitting the vinyl between the the door and the 'B' pillar we are going to paint it instead.
The car is also being fitted with BRAND NEW Gsi side skirts to
I'll get pictures up ASAP of the current progress
She Is gonna be a right cracker when We are finished.

Looking really good mate, your cracking on with it too hey, you should cut out the GSI bumper and have a massive front mounted intercooler imo, the little 1.5 td's go well and are easy to pep up, plus you'll be able to run it on cooking oil and save yourself some money! good luck with the build mate and cant wait too see the next update.
Nice progress mate, good tidy welding!

Looking to be modded & fettled really nicely. It would be a crime to do anything to a Nova that clean to a poor std anyway. All looks good so far incl the welding in the pic. Is it painted now? Looks it.
Keep at it. Cool project. I loved the power delivery of my Nova TD.

Hello all,
Did quite a bit to the car tonight. Finished all the welding.
1) Shutz'd under all wheel arches.
2) re done all the seam sealer around the strut tops etc
3) stonechip'd the underside of the sills and the front cross member and the valance
4) Cleaned down the engine bay with panel wipe ready for me to start painting on thursday night.
5) Stripped the good doors and hung on the shell. Adjusted ;) to get the right gaps. which are now PERFECT
6) Cut the bonnet for the vents which i'll also paint on thursday.
Car is really coming together now, The bumpers, spoiler, wings, Doors and mirrors should be painted within the next few weeks.
I'll then get the doors and wings refitted and gap'd before the shell goes to the body shop for the final lick of paint.

Make sure you wire brush all the paint off the front face of those hubs before you refit. The disc neds to sit 100% flat on it or you'll get nasty vibration under braking!

Emm not too sure mate, left that completely in Lez's hands, however hes done them before.
What suspension setup are you running up front?
Had a few different springs in my TD on uprated shocks and still never got it to sit right. I just gave in and got coilovers lol

Arite mate, I'm using Gas Shocks and Jamex springs!
If you don't fancy drilling through that spanky paint, ask your mate if he could bond the skirts on with tigerseal or something.
I wouldn't be worried about him drilling in thw wrong place etc though, its pretty simple, even I got it right first time lol thats a big reassurance trust me!

Ye we did speak about that but I dont fancy it.
Just gonna have to grin and bare it I think. They need to go on! they finish off the look IMO!
You doing it yourself reassures me greatly my friend! Us novices need to stick together I tell ya!

Arite mate, going to just leave the skirts grey! The handles are grey, the fuel cap is grey and the window trims are grey so having the skirts grey ties all that in IMO and keeps the car from being too white. as for the inside its going to be full gsi interior, thought about a digi dash but decided against it in the end. Cheeky wee touch putting the boost gauge where the clock used to go. We measured the distance of where the clock goes and a 52mm boost gauge fits nicely after a wee bit of filing. ICE I havnt really thought about, but i suppose it will be 2 door card speakers and then 6 by 9s in the back. Alarm was supposed to be fitted this tuesday but I couldnt get a hold of the guy, so will need to speak to him to get that sorted out, Thanks for your interest dude!

It looks absolutley brilliant mate, top notch, classic looks. Is it on the road driving round at the moment? dog some cooking oil in it now! i had an old escort td and i used to run him on 50/50 mix diesel and cooking oil, it worked out alot cheaper and ran perfectley, apparantley you can run it on cooking oil and turpentine mix too which would work out alot cheaper.
loks really nice, could do with a dark grey strip in the bumpers like the gsi's had IMO

what size is that garage ?

Does that mean you steal the pump off the 1.7?
Also, i thought the bleed valve was an aftermarket thing, did the 1.7 come with one?
p.s. these may be dumb questions, i'm new. So new infact, that i only bought my 1.5TD van 4 hours ago.....
Very nice work and 100% the right decision to not paint the side skirts.

the 1.5 pump will supply more fuel than you need so you dont need to worry about that.
neither the 1.5 or 1.7 came with a bleed valve so you need to fit your own.
anything else you need send me a pm
nice to see another td matey , real tidy too

Don't suppose anyone could tell me the deal with the front splitter, it's a laguna splitter im looking for isn't it?...
Tbh mate i wouldnt put a laguna splitter on a GSi bumper as they protrude too far forwards imo and dont look quite right.
Id leave her as she is tbh, looking sexy as hell:thumb:

Just waiting for my bro to get back from offshore, he's a mechanic and had 2 nova's himself so he's handy to have around for tweaking the engine.. Don't really know what i'm doing in terms of screwing the boost up and the likes.
Don't really know what i'm doing in terms of screwing the boost up and the likes.
You and me both, im running a cav 1.7TD and id love to up the boost but im not overly confident trying or really know what im doing, so if he fancies fettling a cav engine too give me a yell:thumb:
And no need to thank me for the positive comment mate its awesome, untill you fire her up you will have everyone thinking its a GSi, pretty much like i do with me cav tbh, its amusing as hell to watch peoples faces when you say "no its a diesel" lol
