I know there's a legal requirement for the letter size and spacing, but is there anything about the physical size of the plate?

I know it has to conform to BS AU 145d but can't find any references with that and physical plate size.

as long as the lettering and size is corroct it don't matter, rover 75 and austion (spell) have shaped plates. if you unsure pop in to halfords and ask to see the order in plate range there will be some cool shape you can order in, take Cg with you for dicount

I have, and all they want to do is tell me about the size of the letters or sell me a personalized plate! Everywhere refers to the British Standard specification, but nowhere actually states whats contained within that standard...

Wikipedia mentions a size, but tbh I'd rather chew my own sh!t than believe anything some pikey chav has written on there

Do they have to be Yellow and White??

I have black ones on front and back with stamped out letters (not reflective).

Can this cause a few issues with Mr Plod:roll:

sorry it's off topic

they can only be black and silver if pre 1973ish.

Jack the vx folks get plates made up that the font matches the correct spacing/size etc BUT the blacking is then cut down ;) its not illegal as the rules are only regarding the font size etc.

Thanks stu, thats what I was thinking would be the case. Has anybody with those style plates reported any issues with local plod?

Pillow_porn, as said the silver on black plates are only legal on cars registered before 01/01/74.

All I know is you have to have at least 10mm clearance from the lettering to the edge of the plate.
