hi all,
as you well know i've been havign some trouble with my 2litre 8valve, and i've replaced pretty much everything and came across a relay... i found out that it's the fuel injection relay :p which would explain alot
vauxhall want ?33 for one, they're on ebay for ?15 inc postage, but i was hoping to just go somewhere and pick one up. they seem to be a tricky thing to get hold of at motor factors...

anyone got any suggestions? if not i'll purchase one on ebay and hopefully it'll be here for the end of the week.

thanks guys :thumb:

Scrap yard. Must be a zillion 2.0 8v motors sat in them... They do vary on the pin pattern, Nova GTE ones for example dont slot into XE wiring looms.

Try smacking it about. Mine used to fail on my Astra 16v, a few whacks with a plastic screwdriver handle would have it working again.

i've tried waking it etc...

what happened on yours when it failed?

Car wouldnt start.

XE's use the relay to power the ECu aswell. So not the best example in the world.

tbh I'd sooner buy a new one from Vaux that is guarantee'd to work. A second hand one could be useless & a waste of time. If you ever sell the car, keep the relay & ebay it or whatever.

just short out the pins to test if its the relay that is the problem. remove the plastic lid and see if you can see the contacts making and breaking or push it closed with you fingers.

i was actually at the breakers the other day and there weren't any 8valve big blocks there, there was a ecotec.

would a non vaux new replacement be ok? they're half the price of the vaux item, but have to wait a few days :(

as vaux don't make them themselves, as long as it is a decent make with warranty, it should be fine.

would an ecotec run the same relay? as i'm tempted to raid the one from the breakers tomorrow to try!?!

if it is just a simple single pole relay then visualise the contacts from the diagram on the plastic lid and compare with another. providing the current and voltages are the same as the new one and the spade connectorisations are the same it should be ok. as Mr Mowgli suggested...there will be the same relays bought by the other manufacturing men and you should be able to find a spare.
