Does anybody know what fule injected inlet mainfold the Grp A nova rallycars used ie the 1600 8v engine?

Was it std with a bigger throttle body or was there a irshmer mainfold.

The standard manifold.

Is the 1400 se inlet the same then? Any idea what throttle body was used?
I think they used the cream injectors out of xe.

Used a standard inlet manifold and a standard TB, with XE injectors.

Be aware, you cant just slap XE injectors onto a 1600 inlet with the standard L Jetronic management.

Yeah, the inlet is very similar. Has slightly sensor differences, but fitments the same.

They ran xe injectors, but had a different ecu to suit.

Thanks lads. If I did go down that route I have a DTA so would be fine.

You can get a larger TB for the 16SE inlet from Vauxhall still. Failing that a 2.0 8v body can be used with an adaptor plate.

Seeing as the Grp-A setup was homologated, GM werent allowed to change these parts, likewise the head & valves were std too. So why not have the inlet plenum opened out by fluid honing as Stu often suggests?

Was there ever an aftermarket inlet mainfold? I vaguely recall years ago seeing one but can't be certain on a nova rally car.

I suppose a fellow could get the mainfold and chop at at intake runners and the make a new plenum chamber instead of fluid honing but your'e still restricted by the size of the throttle body. The super 1600 rally cars all had to use this principle.

Irmsher list an enlarged TB for the GTE/GSi. Its still available IIRC.

I've never seen an aftermarket plenum for the GTE. Seeing as it looks bigger than the big block 8v ones I guess its upto the job, seeing as its OK for 150bhp in Grp-A format.

The opening into the plenum (TB end) is much bigger than the TB bore, so there is room for improvement.

Hone out the lower runners & match to head ports.... Big inlet & zorst valves, bigger TB. Nice gains there I'd imagine with high lift cam & tubular manifold.

I'd like to see if you would make the same power as with twin 45s but better driveability down low and mid range with mapped fuel injection. My cam is lairy until it comes on song.
There is a Irmscher inlet for the 1300. But I don't know if it will fit a 1600/1400 head!

as said in a thread a while ago, had a crack in a worn/tired GRP A spec bar the ECU powerd car... it was definately as fast as a T40'd item, and drove a touch nicer.

Just think how good things would be with non worn bores, bigger valves and some porting work etc mmmm still 160 is about the max you will see from a 1.6 8v without nitrous/FI etc.

I think RallyMan had 167bhp on his.
With a large tb, and mega spec head tho iirc.

I don't think it would be possible to get 167. You couldn't fit valves big enough. Your only talking a 79mm diameter anyway.

chop chop, go and prove it either way

/\/\ I saw that, I'd like to know just how far you can shove a dremel into an intake tract.......As said above, the works rally cars got 160bhp with a standard (ok flowbench a few hundred & get the good ones) manifold. the improvements are to be had elsewhere first.
