Hi there,

Having problems with the brakes on my runaround, can't quite get my head round this one.

The NS Drum will stick on when it gets hot. There is nothing catching on the handbrake cable, to keep that taught, its loose. No other wheel does it, its solely the NS Rear Drum. So cant be the Master Cylinder?

There is no fluid leaking. I have replaced the complete drum, stub axle etc once from a car at the breakers, where everyhting was moving freely on it, that didnt sort it, and still the same problem.

I had replaced everything in the braking system for the NS rear, so new copper brake line running from the MC down to the flexi hose, new flexi hose, new copper line running along the rear beam and all new unions etc into a brand new Wheel Cylinder.

The problem is still there.

Im all out of ideas?

I have no idea, I will investigate further tomorrow.

Any more possibilities Dan?

As I said I changed the complete drum stub axle, bearing etc etc. So if its inside the drum it must have been a common fault on 2 parts I've tried?

I have just been on a 40mile ish round trip. And the back left wheel is very hot, none of the others are if thats anymore help?

What would cause the h/b cable to stick, and how do you fix it? (the cable feels loose-ish going into the drum)

Again, is it worth changing the MC? im 99% sure the problem must be after the MC?

take the drum off, get someone to press the brake pedal (only a little) then release, and see if the shoes retract.

Shoes might be over-adjusted on that side?

H/brake cables can stick in the little guides on the rear beam, I used to clean them out every 6 months to make sure the cable was free.

I've also had the odd seized hand brake operating arm on the shoes themselves, make sure it's nice and free to move.

I got a garage to do the cylinder etc, so should they should have done the adjustor? The adjustor in question is the one you can see on the back of the drum I assume. How do I adjust that correctly?

Thanks

As said last night, as it drums getting hot the shoes must be stucking out,
are all the springs all ok? and are they pulling the shoes back in?

its only the very very very old drums that have the external adjuster.

the common ones are internal and a bit of a fiddly pig to get back right.
