View Full Version : Scammer doing the rounds
Guys, keep an eye out on your PM's for one that looks like this
---------------
Hello
I am interested in buying the Fiesta XR2 1985 B-Reg that you have placed for sell now, and I would want to enquire about the present condition of the above mentioned, as well as some detail about you. I expect this timely enough.
As for the payment, I would need you to get back in touch with the last asking price as I will be paying with a certified cheque.
Lastly, please forward to me your full company's (or house address, telephone and fax) details as I will subsequently prefer reaching you through these facilities.
Yours interestingly,
Raymond Griffiths
Should you need to reply to me, Please get back in touch with your
details to me at:usc200881@yahoo.com for a quick reply.

i was after an xr2 how strange
its not me though just to clear that up lol
lol the car type etc changes to suit your advert ;)
more info,
IF you do reply he sends back some BS along the lines of "I'm not able to get to the internet but call my mobile" or "im in canada but my wife in scotland handles these deals so you ship the car to her" etc etc
lol thought i was going to heckled then, as im an xr2 man now lol
but read the part of where it changes, (good choice of car as an example tho)
will be intresting to see if it happens on this site too
i got the same on ebay, but when i pasted the link to a mate to look at it came up as a VW big 4x4 thing
Ive had a few dodgy enquires about my car recently, they've asked tonnes of questions about condition, tax mot etc.. said they'll come down and have a look, and after ive sent my address to them I havent got any more pm's.
Not saying they are scammers but I wouldnt be surprised..

scum who keeps set of key and steals it back
BE WARNED peeps!!!!
I herd of a person one that on ebay selling ignition barrels for cars and full door and boot locking sets , well all they do is keep a spare key cut , and they send it all out as normal to adress and supposedly if local will go and nick the car with there copy key .
i had it ages ago when i was selling my sprint kit and all my parts i was asking £500 he sent me a cheque for £1300 or something stupid and said to pay the rest back into a different account and to ship the parts

thers anouther scam goin on ebay atm. well a brilliant way of makin a profit anyway.
someone is finding cars and bikes on ebay that have been incorrectly spelt bids/buys and wins them ,as sellers normally give 1 week to collect, the guy copies all the details and changes the contact number on advert. starts a new listing up for the same car with the correct spelling over a 5 day period, askes for a £200+ (profit) deposit by paypal at end of auction as original listing states changes the contact details back to original seller address number via email selling the car for more than priviously sold for making more money. states that must be collected within 48 hours unless he makes the seller aware ,winning bidder goes and collects car/bike privious seller and second buyer completely oblivious to the scam that has just taken place.

same happened with my sister when she had my astra advertised on one of her silly sites
he wanted to send a cheque out for silly amounts and then he comes and gets the car and extra money
i told her to let him pay it and keep all the money and the car lol :thumb:

thats why you only ever deal in cash on collection. when selling a car ask the to meet you at a secure location ie police station, give the that as you address

I had a few of these a while ago, whilst selling an audi 100, always shoot them down when they ask to ship without seeing the car. me thinks that the favorite one going about is an offer to pay by cheque for a car or item that is required to be shipped immidiatly, paying a huge amount of money and then refunding the change from the shipping. people have been hit by this before, always deal with cash when selling a car, my best recomendation!!
