You'll ring and it'll be a premium call line, which rounds up the call to the nearest five minutes and charges 5 pounds per minute. Or something along those lines. :o

Dave,
I got one of these earlier, basically it's some twat (I've got a few ideas who) who is spoofing numbers from a computer, basically they try to make it look like the text was sent by someone else. The +00 bit shows it's sent from something other than a mobile phone, this happened over on MIG just before Billing, so we're not the only ones getting fucked about by it!

the + is short for 00 - 00 indicated international connection - the 44 is the UK - most mobile numbers when you reply to a text message usually start +44 then the number eg +447958 123456. Most mobile networks let you reply to a text even if it is international - you'll only pay for the text if it is delivered. T-Mobile (the company I work for) charge 10p per sent message and 20p for international SMS's.

If you cannot reply the chances are its been given a prefix that is unreturnable - I keep getting ones saying I've won tickets to ibiza - call some dodge 0906 number. If you reply all that comes up is "tickets" (and youre a fool!).

Companies can actually by sms systems that randomly generate mobile numbers and blankly send them out the millions of phones. The chances are 10% of those contacted will reply to a premium rate number (the mugs and muppets) - at ?5 for a premium call minimum charge, these companies can made a very tidy proffit in less than a week!

Its wot pisses me off about the new generation of mobile phones - and I work in the industry.

You wait until you get interactive digital viewing - mobile porn here we come... (you can already get this if you have WAP and know the sites but apparantly its shite!)
