Out of interest has anyone ever come across a vaux petrol engine with the code Y to denote a CR of 11.5:1 or more?

No. Y infront of the engine numbers denotes Euro2 emmissions IIRC.

Cant imagine what engine that would be if you have found something.

Mr CP is correct with his coding
'Y' = more than or equal to 11.5:1

Mr Green:
'X' = EC 91/441/EEC (stage 2)

Your thinking of the wrong letter Craig, Its the X in C20XE that denotes the comp ratio.

Cant say ive ever come accross that letter yet lol, saying that, theres a shed load of vauxhall codes ive never seen used.

No I'm not. I was hoping CP wasnt wrong.

For example a Y17DT is a diesel engine that conforms to euro3 emmisions.

an X20XEV conforms to euro 2. (X infront engine capacity no meaning euro 1.)

Tbh although the Y code exists for the comp ratio (as does X for most twin cam engines) I dont reckon its ever been mass produced, maybe reserved for homologated Irmscher engines?

Most vauxhall diesel engine codes start with a 'Y', never come across a 'Y' after the engine size personally.
