staggy_gsi

yeah they did. but when someone says redtop you automatically think 2 litre!

if theyre a similar engine how come they have different rockers on?

Steve

Suppose beacuse they were made later on? around the same time as the ecos werent they?

staggy_gsi

yeah maybe so.

so the c18xe's were the 'redtops' and the x18xe's were the ecosheds?

ive said it before and I'll say it again.

If the eco-tec engines were called "super power" then people would love them, even though they are down on power etc lol

Wasnt the eco-tec lump built to reduce emissions, As the c20 xe(redtop) produced more..?

General Baxter

yes but most c20xe will have been ragged and very low down on power and well over 100k

when you can get a c18xe with about 60k on for the same price and have as much power as a 100k c20xe, if that makes sense lol

As has been said that will be a C18XE, most commonly found in the Mk3 Astra GSi 1.8 but also in a few other Mk3 Astras. It's externally the same as 1.8 and 2.0 ecotecs but doesn't have all of the EGR rubbish that ecotecs have, I believe the book figure is 130ish bhp but they're well known for producing more than that as standard.

iirc, there std bhp is all over the place a bit like a c25xe lol

some are 160 some are 180 lol

Total vauxhall have it down as 135bhp, (I think)

I always wanted one for my nova as its not a common conversion but still makes good power.

Any more pics of it mate?

i had one in my astra gsi and it had been rolling roaded at 148 bhp with just a modified airbox and full stainless system on.

Parkers list two 1.8 16v Astra engines, 125bhp and 115bhp versions. I'm guessing the former is the C18 and the latter the X18.

no pictures at the moment as i havent done anything to the engine since i brought it, going to strip it this week so might start a project thread
