a quick question just.
i bought an auld cavalier there a month or 2 back........but didnt really pay much attention to it 2bh..
but i poped the bonnet there earlier and the engine seems to be a smallblock(either that.......or i'd far far to much beer last nite)
woould this be right...
its a 1990...........1.6 ...basic model.
i got the haynes manual out here ....and it says its a "1.6 SV"........model
is that a small block....or big block??
cheers folks:thumb:
id say 1.6 is a small block
being a small capacity
1.6sv is small block
Looks identical to a 1.4sr engine.
what defines the engine as a small block? the capacity/valves etc??

cheers lads..............i thought i was immagining it.
the 1.6 engine in the mk2 cavaliers was a big block though............and i just took it that this would be the same.
turns out i now have a 1.6 nova engine lying arround to add to the collection.
super stuff
what defines the engine as a small block? the capacity/valves etc??
err, the size of the block.

Old pre 88 1.6's are bigblock.
Mk2 Cavs came in a 1300cc variant & mk3's a 1400.

its a 1.6.........small block then........
alot better than having abig block as no one would want it....
but i'd immagine my engine would be alot more sellable for a nova conversion or whatever.
i wonder what gearbox is on it then??
an f.10 or an f.13........i suppose.
what sort of modifications work well on a carbed 1.6???
I would have thought it would be a big block, my old mk3 astra 1.6 was a big block.

i bought a 1.6 sv out of a cav for racing but to be honest i didn't know what i was buying at the time. However, it seems to be a little more powerfull than the other cav engines that the others have put in their novas for racing. I don't know if this a true fact but it definatley seems to be the case. I haven't as yet made any mods to the engine, but i have with the carb. The only thing that's been done is, i've shaved a little off of the plastic cam on the side of the carb to allow both of the flaps to open together. I read somewhere that the second flap opens at the begining of the mid-range area, this is for emission purposes and i'm not sure how it would come into play during the emission test. It does make a difference but only slight.
could anyone tell me if there is a vauxhall that comes with a LSD as standed that will fit into a F10/F13 box.
cheers.
