If they're flat plates they'll just sit on the floor and bolt through. If they're an inverted L shape they'll need reinforcing plates with captive nuts welding onto the inner sills first, as in the Group A build manual.

Post a pic of the cage temporarily built up in place, with closeups of the mounting points and we can say for certain.

Build it up fully inside the car, after removing the seats (and carpets if you wont be re-fitting them). Tighten the bolts up untill there's just a little play in the joints, as long as all the feet touch the shell, it should be in the right place, but you can measure and compare both sides to get it spot-on. The feet of the cage should just sit on the floor, mark out the bolt holes onto the floor using the holes in the cage as a guide. You can now either remove the cage, or if there's room to get your drill in leave it as is and start drilling the holes you need (may be easier to remove the carpets and cut the holes in them seperate, then refit it all to make sure the marks on the metal are in the right place). Make sure there's nothing like brake/fuel pipes under where the holes are going to be first.

If the cage comes with reinforcing plates these are meant to go on the under-side of the floor. Bolt it all up nice and tight, put the seats back in and there you go.

Don't forget your insurers might want to be notified that you've fitted it, and may charge you some extra for being honest about what's fitted.

If the plates aren't supplied make sure you use nice big washers between the floorpan and nuts if it's only really for show. If you'll be using the car where there's a strong chance the cage could be needed to do it's job, get some made up out of 2 or 3mm plate.

it may see a little track action in the near future but for now would be mainly road use. may just go for washers the now and get a mate to machine me some plates. thanks for the advise

make some templates up for each plate direct from the feet and label each one if you do. That way when you've had them cut out and drilled they should go straight on without a problem.

Oh and if the feet for the rear arches are flat, don't worry if they bend when tightening the bolts up! Although the reinforcing plates may need beating into shape to go on easily if you fit them at a later date.
