hello, thought i would make a new project thread of my nova. it started as a 1200 carb model, mk2. i bought it just before christmas in 2006. got it for about ?200 and it had a 60mm lowering kit on, peco exhaust, gay alloys, cd player and 6x9's..

I had always wanted a black nova for my first car so this was it!:thumb:

The plan was to strip the front end down, get her welded, re-spray whole car, and make it a gsi replica. It got a bit better as i went along though.lol

need to wait a week for paint to dry then i am going to build her back together etc. going to clean the interior as it is filthy, need some sri doorcards to finish that off..

and for the mot i need 2 cv boots and my track rod ends fitted..

going to get the coilovers painted up before fitting too..

my list to finish now is, vauxhall mudflaps, vauxhall sqaure griffin for tailgate, red bumper tape, new regi plates, sri doorcards and one hell of a good clean inside!:thumb:

yes black novas are a favourite of mine too..along with silk violet and jamaican yellow.

thinking about it, and dont take this the wrong way, but what makes up the GSi part of this project??

gsi looker..

its going to have gsi grill, gsi bumpers, gsi decals, gsi spoiler, gsi skirts, gsi window surrounds and hopefully a gsi front windscreen at some point.

i also hope to get some gsi interior and a gsi engine after i have been driving it for a year or two..

got a small list of things to do before she is completly finished..hope to have most of it done this weekend..

spray gsi bumpers,
spray grill and fit gsi badge,
fit rear gsi windows,
fit gsi side skirts
give interior a really good clean and fit gsi steering wheel,
plenty of magic tree's,
fit gsi rear arch carpets,
fit 2.0 brakes on front,
fit coilovers on front,
fit bilstein struts on rear,
fit 80mm rear springs,
top up gear oil.

then that should be us..i am not going to fix cv boots and the wheel bearings til mot time..

gsi's have window surrounds..little plastic trims. they also go down to a point at rear corner of window. you will see when i put them in!lol

Yeah I know they've got the trims, my 1.2 has got the same. I know the front screen is tinted, thought maybe you meant the side glass was diffrent.

not much of an update but got my bumpers painted tonight along with the grill..
just need to get them fitted, top up gearbox oil, change engine oil and filter, clean interior etc..

very pleased with what it came out like considering it wasnt very warm in the garage..

still need to polish her!

The car is looking great mate, the respray came out well for doing it in a garage. Maybe wet sand it lightly before polish?

small update..i fixed the starter problem i had with the nova so i took her out for some pics..i also have my gsi skirts fitted which make it look miles better imo..need to fit my lowering springs back on the front..will do it soon..

not really tbh..

i really want to get it 100% finished but i havnt got alot of room in my garage just now..i should hopefully get rid of the nova rally shell in the next 2 or 3 weeks so then i can have room to play with this nova..

i may have purchased a spare engine..70k from new and looks really clean, not a dribble of oil on it..so if i get that i am going to stick a cover over it and keep it spare for a quick conversion when/if needed..

well its been a while but there has been some progress..

i have re-built the engine (just need a new distributor to finish) and it goes well..

also got new handbrake cable on, gsi steering wheel, and my Track Rod Ends fitted..so happy that the track rod ends are done!

Also got her sitting on coilovers (been told they are avo's) but she is a bit low..even with 14'' wheels its scraping and cant turn steering full lock..

I should hopefully get some red bumper tape and 'metro' number plates from Vaughan in the next few weeks. Cant wait to see our novas together either mate..

I have got pics but i will put them on later. Got to go to school and do an exam now! lol

Tidge, thanks for that comment. the car is clean but because we painted the car ourselves it is a bit duller than i would like it..i just need to cut it back and polish it back up..i have done a pbit of it and it comes up really good. just not the weather for doing it just now.

one of the things high on the list is to out a set of clear (standard type gsi) repeaters as the ones that are on it are broken/falling off..

had it out a run on a private road for the first time in years on tuesday night..
it seems very low and bouncy although she sticks to the road. something as rubbing on the passenger side rear so will have to investigate that..

i have always not been happy with the paintowrk but, i polished up the back quarter quickly with a bit of g3 then polish and it came up not too bad..

think i am just going to get the bumpers re-sprayed, g3 the whole car and polish it back up..

also badly need a set of astra mk4 mudflaps, digi dash bulb new engine fitted, f13cr gearbox and a new carpet/washed..

got a full set of polybushes siting ready to go on with nice shiny black bottom arms and tie rods and back axle with an arb..

decided i am going to buy a spax adjustable suspension kit for it and a full ashley exhuast system including a 4 branch..

oh and i have a euro rear light to fit, might do that today..

oh and the 1300 sr engine that is in it just now gives a bit of blue smoke and i have lost a fair bit of compression on cylinder 3..not running right at all..

so i have got a 1400 block and i am going to fit a 1200 head (ported and polished) new headgasket, enem 300 deg cam and fit my twin webbers again..

i have got all of the above stuff, but i will also be buying a 4 branch and ashley competition system for it, let her breath a bit better..

the plan is to hide as much wiring as possible, re-spray engine bay, fit my new engine, fit f13cr gearbox with 4.2 cwp, fit polybushes, re-spray inner arches, fit decent suspension, fit 2.0 16v brakes, fit 4 branch manifold and exhaust system..

once that is done i am going to concentrate on inside, it just needs a good clean, some nice vauxhall mats, digi dash bulb, gsi sill trims..

then the car will be getting fully re-sprayed yet again..

once this is done, i hope that will be the car finished..

i should be getting my new engine tomorrow so i will post pics up..

the spec is -

1200 block, 1300 crank and rods = high compression 1400, fully lightened and balanced, arp bolts, worked big valve head, kent camshaft, kent alloy vernier pulley, webber 40 dcoe's with irmscher inlet, pipercross air filters, 4 branch manifold, competition exhaust system..

the car will be getting re-sprayed again as it was never done right. me and my dad painted it and tbh it was a rush job. it shold never have been done in the conditions that it was..the car was damp befre we started painting it, it was cold, using a ****ty free spray gun and in a barn..

we will do it again but do it a bit more professional. my dad used to spray cars so he does know what he is doing..

i knew about the doors but didnt know about spring hangers/chassis legs..
amazing what you find under sealer/paint..

someone has done a good job of putting seler over the top of it all..

its only now that i have started poking things that i have found it..

not to worry though, the front end is good..

just need to sort out the backend..

think i have found all the rust anyway..

pretty dissapointed that the backend is as bad..

thought about re-shelling it. not really that much work to re-shell it tbh but finding a mint shell will be hard..

starting grinding/cutting plates for it tomorrow.. also going to seam weld it up so it cant pull apart..

i think i should be able to make it pretty damn good with a few days work..

i am replacing the drivers arch, 2 sills, doors..

i am getting on with it mate..

i am ready to start welding the passenger side..

i cut out all the rust today and ground down to clean metal wher plates are going on..

going to start fitting my sills through the week also..

i am aiming to get the passenger side/underneath finished be next weekend..

then it just leaves the drivers sill and qaurter to fit..

i am pleased to say that i am well on my way with repairing the back end..

i spent all weekend grinding/cutting and welding..

the passenger side is nearly complete, made part of the chassis leg again and welded it in with new metal for spring hanger. I am so chuffed with what i have done to the chassis leg/spring hanger. it looks original and will be hell of alot stronger. took me about 3 hours but think its well worth it..

also plated the rear panel, again this took a bit of time to cut and shape it.

inner arch and boot corner is also done, then i spent a few hours tonigt seam sealing all my welds/seams on chassis leg then i stone chipped the whole chassis leg/inner arch.

after that i started on the sill, but realy pleased with what i have got done so far..

broke the digital camera on saturday when i was away looking at another nova but will get some pics asap..

not really an update but just to let you guys know..

i have lost notion in the nova just now. i hadnt touched any of them for over 2 weeks now.

but the other night we worked out that it was only 12 weeks til i am 17..

so yes, that means 12 weeks to complete the nova!!!!

i still have an arch/sill/inner arch welding, body shutz underneath, re-fit tank/axle, fuel/brake lines, exhaust, new gear linkage, re-spray, fit my spax suspension kit, powdercoat my speedlines, re-fit lights and windows ect..

i **** myself when i found out it was 12 weeks. so that has gave me a bit of notion again.

spent a day at it today, got doors off, new doors neearly ready to paint, found another rotten bit on (front inner wing) so welded that up, also started welding the drivers side rear quarter (last section :cool:)....

matthew, the shell you sold me is sitting on axle stands up the back of my garage with a full mutlipoint weld in roll cage and full harry hockley chassis plating kit welded onto it. i just havnt got the time or money to complete it just now..

might try and do something with it next year..

well the big countdown has started..

its only 10 days until i am 17..

the nova is still not finished, so no mot or tax yet..:eek:

i just primed the shell tonight, so another night or two getting that 100%, got all my panels to prepare and paint..

then got the car to build back together. all panels on, windows in, interior in, wheels, lights etc..

dont think it is going to be ready but i am going to carry on trying..

got my paint today also. quite chuffed with it, i have decided to go mettalic. it is a vauxhall colour, but it aint gsi colour..think it should turn out cool though! it has a bit of custom to it too, the guy added extra metalic for me. i just wanted it a bit different.

i took all the masking tape off tonight, also dug out my speedlines. taking them to the local garage tomorrow and going to take tyres off and get speedlines powdercoated.

i am scared to attack the nova with 2000grit wet n dry, g3 and polish.. the finish is shiny just now, dont want to see it dull and scratched again. lol

i know the project was more or less finished but i still got a few things to do..

the pics show how the paint came out the gun, it has not been flattened/polished yet. i also want get another bonnet for it, as the one that is on it has dents and preperation marks (i must of forgot to prepare it properly), also want a set of gsi mats for it, need the mirrors painted again due to being the old paint..i just had to get it built back together to see what she was going to look like.. lol

so lets just say it needs finishing touches..

yes i am on cruise west cumbria.. i have not updated any pics for about a year though..

dont know whats next, should really finish my spare rally car shell..

seriously though, my next nova road project will either be based on an early nova (ski/swing) or it will be another mk2. see what happens nearer the time.
