Hey Folks,

Got some 195.45.16 Kumo's on the softstars on my Nova. However they catch the front arch. I've since put the same make of tyre on my girlfriends Corsa C and they also catch her plastic arch, but her old tyres didnt.
So this must mean that its definatly the type of tyre wall on these that is causing it.

Can everyone recommend the best 195.45.16" tyres for having a thin tyre wall that wont catch the arch?

IIRC Pirellis had a nice tyre wall, anymore?

Hi keith, i find that although tyres have the same sizing, the style of tread/tyre differs greatly. Iirc softstars are 6" wide, making the the tyre sidewalls "baloon" out a bit more than say, being fitted on a 7" rim.
Going off the top of my head i'd say goodyear eagle F1's/ toyo T1s proxes "look" nice and slim when fitted.
A lad i know dropped a size on his corsa b, from 195/45/16 to 195/40/16 to stop rubage, and although it didn't stop it altogether it helped significantly.

Cheers for that John. I know that Speedlines are 6.5" wide and so the tyres don't baloon out the same.

I had Toyo's on my old Nova and they were fine, and I remember Pirelli's were even thinner, however they are big cash!

An old freind of mine used to have michelin pilots in that size on a 7" rim. He had to fold the lip and flatten it right down on both front arches. It still caught occasionaly on near-full lock with -60mm konis. 40 profile may indeed be the best route without some gentle arch stretching?

picture here is deceiving as they look like 17" tyres. Don't know much about these keith but they're only slightly dearer than kuhmo's.

sorry link not working, they're toyo proxes px4

Hey Keith, I use F1's on mine, the do have nice slim walls however they have caught in the past although the car is very low.... I was talking to phil lofthouse the other day and he advised what John said buy 195/40's next time round and see how they are before fabricating the front wings etc. Worth a try fella, Nick.

Yoko A539 almost look like a 35 profile in that size. Very slim.

Uniroyal rain sports on the other hand look like 55 profiles in comparison.

firestones are good for tyre walls not too thin and not too thick,, but i would go for toyo's brill for grip especially in this sort off weather,i do currently work at kingsway tyres and i can get them in at cost at ?25 lol

good luck fella

Avoid firestone firehawk TZ2000's, the sidewalls are massive, 195/50x15's are more like 215's when fitted.

Think my 195/40's were on a 4 for 3 offer (Continentals) at kiwikfit of all places…

Clearance is important on rear of mine on a 7" wide rim ~ they taper in nicely thou

I had the same issue on my corsa and went for 194/40's

Solved the rubbing problem
